Indian River Trail Report – 01/27

Winter just keeps delivering the hits to us here. We had snow roll through Friday into Saturday and dump between 8 and 10 inches of fluffy snow! Friday was very cold and windy too, which decreased visibility and caused many schools to close early. Even the Bridge was closed for half the day. Yesterday was quiet and people spent the day digging out or playing in the fresh snow. Temps were in the teens and conditions were relatively quiet. Trails have been groomed all weekend and as you can imagine are in tremendous condition. It’s a snowmobilers’ paradise out there. Well, except for the cold…Temps dropped overnight and we’re not even at zero now. Wind chill advisories are posted and many schools are closed. We’ve got a lot of cloud cover and the advisory is in effect until 7 am Tuesday. Light snow is falling now but visibility is ok. Dress warm if you ride! Groomers will run again tonight! Happy Trails-

Keweenaw Peninsula Trail Report – 01/28

The snowmobile trails from Twin Lakes to Copper Harbor are open. The groomers are out working on them and the trails are in very good condtion but watch out for some low hanging branches and drifting. Remember to watch out for the groomers when you’re out on the trails, they have the right of way!!

There is logging being done on Trail 124. It will be signed but please use caution.

Trail 122 from Lake Linden to Gay is closed for logging. Gay can be accessed on Trail 124 or Trail 133 out of the Lac La Belle area.

There is a temporary re-route on Trail 3, north of Mohawk because of logging.

The Keweenaw Convention & Visitors Bureau asks that you stay on the trails, STAY OFF THE ICE, respect private property, do not drink and drive, and above all else, please, drive safely. The signs on the snowmobile trails are there for the riders’ safety. Please, DO NOT remove or destroy these signs.

Please be aware that if you snowmobile on U.S. Coast Guard property you could face federal trespass charges.
