Ontonagon Trail Report – 12/11

12/11/14 @ 1o:10AM I woke at 12:30AM could hardly believe it was 6 degrees-looked twice to make sure. Woke up again at 3:30 and it was 19 degrees. It is now mid-morning and the temp is 22.8. Groomers ran on schedule again last night-so far our snow base is holding. It is really helpful that our groomer go out at night-cold temps and they freeze in place and it helps get thru the next day if temps are warmer. It is overcast today, beautiful thick frost on trees.

We’ll try to keep you abreast of temps, etc. As it stands, in our grooming area, our hard base of 17 inches will get us thru Sat. & Sun if the temps are above freezing.

If you have any questions on conditions between these reports, 906-288-3404 and we’ll tell you the best we can.

We started out so good last year that we expect a repeat. What we are going thru is what is normal for Decembers.

Under trail conditions on the right side of this page we aren’t given in-between choices to click but in our 138 miles, we go from fair to very good conditions. Trail #3 is very good.

Thinking we might have to do the Heikki Lunta dance again this year.

To date, official NOAA snowfall for Twin Lakes is 89 inches.

Have fun & be safe. Ride with caution at all times.

Newberry Trail Report – 12/11

Red’z Wolf Inn & Bunkhouse – December 11

Thanks to our friend Scott, we were able to take a quick ride around the area on sleds to check out the conditions. They are great!! We haven’t had any internet all week, so we haven’t been able to clue you in. So, with that, we are happy to say that we have a lot of snow here and even more if you head north going in either direction towards Paradise or Grand Marais. The only issues we have heard about is trail 45 is closed due to the ground not being frozen yet. The trails are groomed and the county roads have a lot of snow as well as off trail is spectacular. We will be OPEN Friday night and all day Saturday, so stop on out!

Tahquamenon Area Snowmobile Association Report – December 8

Trail #9 Gates at the Newberry Staging area are open and groomed Saturday nite to Pine Stump. There is a real good base up north but the trail has some dirt leaving Newberry. In the Seney trail area near Co. Rd. 455 there is a logging operation so please be careful.

Trail #45 has gates closed on the Charcoal Grade due to private land owners still hunting.

South Trail is open but not groomed due to not enough snow on the ground.

REMEMBER: Our swamps and many wet areas are not frozen so please be careful.

Weather forecast is calling for 1 to 3 inches of snow on Monday and the rest of the week sunny and temperatures in the 30’s.

We do not groom in the village, and the curfew in the village is 11 P.M. to 7 A.M.

THE NORTH STORE ON CO. RD. 407 OPEN THIS YEAR.

FYI: RAINBOW LODGE IS STILL CLOSED

Trail Maps are now available at the groomer barn. Business’s and Indivduals call 906-293-3063 for maps.
