12/22 As of 9AM we have not rec’d any rain in this area-coming down as snow. Snowing as I type. 4 inches overnight. Predicting possibly another 3 today so its a wait & see.
A lot of snowmobilers over the past 3 days. Everyone was saying the trails were much better than they thought they’d be and it was well worth their trip. That’s always nice to hear. Reservations were made by some and cancelled, others grabbed the empty slots and some said those people did them a big favor. We have some leaving yet this morning so as they come in to check out we’ll quiz them also. The groomers have been out on schedule every night.
If you have any questions on conditions between these reports, 906-288-3404 and we’ll tell you the best we can.
Under trail conditions on the right side of this page we aren’t given in-between choices to click but in our 138 miles, we go from fair to very good conditions. Trail #3 is very good and with this continued snowfall & cold temps, everything will just get better.
Dress warm, and ride safe.
Have fun & be safe. Ride with caution at all times.

We got a fresh 3 inches of snow this morning that turned into wet and heavy snow in the afternoon. This put something on the trails but not much. Our trails here are far from GREAT at this point but there is something to ride on. Our groomers are still out doing what they can do. I am noticing that the swamps are getting better with people and groomers packing them down.

Conditions are once again too warm for grooming, at least during the daytime hours. We did get an additional 2 – 3 inches of new snow over last night and more is expected this week along with much colder temperatures just in time for the weekend.
Watch for a change on trail 1 South from Rd. 8800 to Marenisco soon. We’ve been encountering more water problems in this area and hope to reroute…just watch for signs.
For any who are planning to spend Christmas day up here please be aware that not all of the restaurants will be open so it’s best to call ahead. Also, by law, all bars must close Christmas Eve by 9:00et/8:00ct.
You can legally ride any county road that does not get plowed, but check with the Forest Service for a map to these roads. They have a waterproof one for $10.00. Call 906-932-1330 or go to www.fs.usda.gov/ottawa for more info.
The new snowmobile maps are out and available at most local businesses. Please remember that only money put into the wooden map money boxes with the photo of the groomers on it goes towards the trails – so please be aware of this and watch for this.
That’s all for now from Carolyn at the Hoop! We can’t wait to see you all back up again enjoying our beautiful area. For additional information about the Lake Gogebic area please visit the chamber website at www.LakeGogebicArea.com or call them at 1-888-464-3242 (888-GOGEBIC). Have a great day and a great ride.
