Lake Gogebic Trail Report – 01/09

January 9th, 2015 – We received about a foot of new snow from Thursday evening to Friday am! Lots of new white stuff to play in for everyone!! And the other bit of good news is trail 102 has now been groomed completely through and we’re very happy to report no more wet spots due in large part to the hard work of our groomer drivers, mechanics and volunteers, but also due to the extreme cold we’ve been shivering through all week. In fact, word is that there are no more wet spots on any of our trails…just in time for a busy weekend. All trails are being groomed on a rotating basis. With more cold weather expected maybe we won’t have any more of the problems we battled in Deeember.

You can legally ride any county road that does not get plowed, but check with the Forest Service for a map to these roads. They have a waterproof one for $10.00. Call 906-932-1330 or go to www.fs.usda.gov/ottawa for more info.

The new snowmobile maps are out and available at most local businesses. Please remember that only money put into the wooden map money boxes with the photo of the groomers on it goes back to the trails – so please be aware of this and watch for this.

That’s all for now from Carolyn at the Hoop! Keep checking back for more updates as conditions change. For additional information about the Lake Gogebic area please visit the chamber website at www.LakeGogebicArea.com or call them at 1-888-464-3242 (888-GOGEBIC). Have a great day and a great ride.

Indian River Trail Report – 01/09

Time to hit the trails! Trails are in good shape for a great riding weekend.

The guys groomed last night and the big storm brought us 6″ of fresh powder. We had strong winds and a lot of drifting too. I think all the schools in this area are closed today–we have a lot of digging out to do!

We expect lake effect to kick in today and bring a bit more snow. Temps are crisp but not too frigid. We’re at around 12 degrees and should stay in the teens all weekend.

The groomers are scheduled to run all weekend so trail conditions should hold. Watch for traffic on the trails and stay in your lane. Happy trails at last!
