HARBOR SPRINGS AREA UPDATE via Harbor Springs Snowmobile Club – 01/21
It’s been a snowy, windy, & cold start to the week but it’s just what we needed! Groomer Dale is out rolling the grade tonight (Trail 7) & overall conditions are good. The snow gets thinner north of Carp Lake and is drifting in the open areas but that’s to be expected. We have two groomers headed out tomorrow night to hit the rest of our trails.

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Gaylord Michigan >> Lake effect snow showers continue today, heaviest near and south of Grand Traverse Bay. PETOSKEY AREA UPDATE via Petoskey Snowmobile and ORV Club >> Groomer Tracker app shows areas being groomed tonight, groomer Kyle just switched with groomer Matt. Matt is heading south on 76 from Chandler Hill Road to our turn around with Jordan Valley. The green dot are groomers. WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Gaylord Michigan >> Lake effect snow continues tonight into Sunday as winds shift more northwesterly, shifting focus of snows with time. In addition to the snow, very cold wind chills and air temperatures are expected tonight, particularly in areas away from lake effect snowfall. #miweather #gaylord #cadillac #benzie #traversecity #petoskey

Gusty winds will lead to blowing and drifting snow, leading to quick drops in visibility – especially across open areas. Wind chills look to stay below zero today into tonight. HARBOR SPRINGS AREA UPDATE via Harbor Springs Snowmobile Club >> We had all three groomers out last night & the snow was coming down! Everything was groomed other than the Alanson Trail & Cross Village loop. The Alanson trail has the least amount of snow on our system & there are still some open water holes but overall the trails are in good shape.
Trees are continuing to fall from the ice storm damage earlier this year so please keep that in mind when out riding & especially in high winds. If you come across a down tree & are unable to safely remove it from the trail please let us know.
Temperatures are supposed to stay cold through the weekend & we are expected to get another 2-6 inches of snow. There is a warm up predicted Tuesday-Thursday with possible rain, we are hoping that changes but we will keep everyone updated.

Several inches of snow is expected across parts of northwest lower and the eastern U.P. by Saturday morning with additional lake effect snow continuing through Saturday. Below zero wind chills are expected for most areas late tonight through Saturday. Wind gusts of 25-35+ mph will lead to patchy blowing/drifting snow, especially across open areas. Quickly dropping temps tonight may freeze wet roads by Saturday morning.
