NEWBERRY AREA UPDATE via TASA Tahquamenon Area Snowmobile Association >> I know you're all sleeping, but we're out here doing cool things for all of you. 😊
So ya, took off at 6 all cognetoie thinking I'd just focus and pay attention to the task at hand tonight but see we've been spotted, evidence from several places were out here, could be the lights, it is orange, dunno but it didn't work! 😂
Anyway, 4th season playing with one of these and I can tell you it's been a perfect storm 😁 of continuous snow, temps, and all of you working with us to leave the snow on the corners for us to squish, ( See how wide and Flat they're building up!!) I just turned south at Wolf Inn, if we get this 7" Carl Bonac says "anything close to the Soo" , that's us right? 😉 we could used it but is pretty awesome right now, no complaints here! Actually belive this keeps up, we will make the cover of Better Cabins & Trails this year 😎
Hope you get outta bed and come see what we did for you!

Keweenaw Peninsula Trail Report – 01/25

KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Keweenaw Trail Reports >> 01/25

How far do you drive to ride the Keweenaw?

Or how far do you backpack via snowmobile to ride the Keweenaw?
Tegan Noltner and Josh Held are no strangers to riding the Keweenaw, but this trip they brought Tegan’s brother, a first time rider to the area! We always love showing people around this beautiful place for the first time!

The group actually traveled to Mercer, Wisconsin by truck and trailer and then unloaded the sleds and took the trails the rest of the way to Houghton to stay last night!

Today they left Houghton and headed to High Rock Bay and The Rocket Range. Trail 136, the short spur trail to High Rock has not had a groomer down it yet this season due to low snow cover and a persistent water crossing. Good news is the water crossing has been reported as completely frozen after the extreme cold temps this past week, however the trail is pretty beat and in needs of grooming.

The group rode into Copper Harbor to fuel up at Copper Harbor Fuel Stop and enjoy a delicious meal at The Mariner North before continuing their ride through Lac La Belle to Gay! Note: trail 133 (from Lac La Belle to Gay) has only been groomed 2 times this year due to low snow cover and has been reported as very rough the last 3 days. Please plan your rides accordingly and continue to check the Groomer Tracker app for current grooming operations.
All other trails within the system have been reported as great. Of course with the high traffic, the early birds definitely get the worm or we should say ribbon trails. Trails obviously can show signs of heavy traffic by afternoon and evening before the groomer operators are able to get back out there and work their magic! Huge thank you to the Keweenaw Snowmobile Club for their non stop efforts to provide the best possible riding experience for all riders!

Thanks for sharing the beautiful photos Tegan! Enjoy the rest of your ride!

KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Keweenaw Trail Reports >> Brrrrrr….. 🥶it was definitely a cold day to ride the Keweenaw, but Jason Kremer definitely wasn’t complaining!
Jason and crew headed out today from the Ramada in Hancock and rode up to Copper Harbor for the Winter Wonderfest & Park
Lighting Event! (Checkout the video Jason shared with us in the comments!)
Jason is a frequent rider of the Keweenaw and today definitely didn’t disappoint! Jason shared these photos and said, “You definitely need to tode to Copper Harbor tomorrow! Trails are not freshly groomed but they are flat and fast! The only slightly bumpy part was the trail up Brockway, but not bad for a Saturday in the Kee! There is zero traffic today, only met one group of sledders all the way from Hancock to Copper Harbor. Having a blast, will send you pics when I get service. Maybe we will run into a groomer on the way back!”
Well, as you can see from one of Jason’s photos, they did come across a groomer on the way back from Copper Harbor!
We hope you all enjoyed your Saturday as much as Jason did!
Please note as of right now the, The Portage Lake Lift Bridge is not yet open for snowmobile crossing. That means you can not cross from Houghton to Hancock…. yet.
The Coast Guard needed to close the shipping lanes and then the Keweenaw Snowmobile Club and the city need to coordinate laying the snow mat for sled crossing…. Hopefully, very soon!
Thanks as always for sharing, Jason! #keweenaw #snowphotos
