KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Keweenaw Trail Reports….
What a great week it has been on Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula! Garret and Nicholas Vliem have been up riding these amazing conditions all week and shared some additional photos and reviews on trail conditions with us!
Nicholas said, “ SO much good snow. What a blast today! This place is just fricking amazing. Put on 180 miles on top of all the boondocking! Was a full day! Pretty beat. 430 miles in 3 days, and tons of backcountry riding with Garett Vliem
Garett said, “Our last day riding, GREAT trails and plenty of snow! We always manage to find it!! Don’t want to go, but I miss my little family!”
It’s always hard to leave the Keweenaw but it’s experiences like these that keep the Vliem brothers and so many other riders coming back season after season! If you have not yet experienced riding the Keweenaw, I hope you get the opportunity to do so soon! For those that do ride the Keweenaw, I think you would agree!

When approaching a groomer try to pull off to the side as far as you or ride as far off to the side as safe as you can. Please stay on your side of the trail, even more so try not to cross over onto freshly groomed trails. The longer it sets the better riding it is for you & others. Ride Right. Ride Safely. Totals of an inch or less are expected for most of the UP, but where lake effect snow occurs, up to 2-5in of snow is possible tonight through Tuesday evening. As winds pick up early Tuesday, patchy blowing snow may contribute to reduced visibility in the NW wind snow belts. Our west winds kick up to the 30-40 mph range later tonight. Prior to that happening, a northwest wind will batter some lake effect areas with an additional 1-3" this afternoon, with pockets of 4"+ possible. As we move into Tuesday, a widespread blanket of 2-5", with pockets of 4-8" will overtake the Lake Michigan shoreline, eastern UP, and Keweenaw Peninsula. Temperature difference between water and air, plus adequate lift will fuel lake effect all the way through Wednesday morning. Additionally, we have a clipper moving through on Tuesday that will bring isolated pockets of 1-3" to the east side. Most locations should still be beneath an inch, however, too many variables are in play to not mention it.
Travel will be impacted along and west of US-131, with minor travel impacts all the way over to the US-127 corridor (I-75 north of Grayling). The clipper will be swinging through with the initial push of gusty winds after midnight tonight through 10 am Tuesday morning.
