Munising Area Trail Report – 02/03
TRAIL REPORT February 3, 2022
DOING WHAT WE CAN WITH HELP!
About an inch of new snowfall with the trail system in overall fair to good condition, poor in some sections. Limited Grooming was accomplished in the last 24 hours. Trenary Northern Trails will continue helping on the west end and sharing use of their Deere with our operator during the day today. Schoolcraft Motorized Trail Association will be helping from the southeast end. We will be doing limited grooming with our club owned machine as we move it back to the Munising Trail 419 area. The Big Deere is being picked up this morning and most likely will be out for a few weeks. The Trail Programs Spare Machine is scheduled to return along with parts for our Bully. Hopefully we can get back to a normal grooming schedule soon. We will keep everyone updated on equipment status as things develop. Be sure to Thank our neighboring clubs for helping us keep your trails rideable. Get out and ride safe, stay right and enjoy the great riding conditions! MUNISING AREA UPDATE via TNT Trenary Northern Trails –
We always get to showcase what our operators do. With our downtime this week making small needed repairs and adjustments to our groomer, mother mature didn’t sleep. Windblown drifts can grow in hours. Watch your speed in windy conditions as these drifts can throw you off the trail. Skilled operators make for good trail. These are some pictures of what they make trail out of. No cherry picked smooth after pictures. Thank your groomers!

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> Another quickly-moving Clipper will bring a round of widespread, light snow beginning this evening, followed by lingering lake effect snow across the NW wind snow belts for Tuesday. Totals of an inch or less are expected for most of the UP, but where lake effect snow occurs, up to 2-5in of snow is possible tonight through Tuesday evening. As winds pick up early Tuesday, patchy blowing snow may contribute to reduced visibility in the NW wind snow belts. Our west winds kick up to the 30-40 mph range later tonight. Prior to that happening, a northwest wind will batter some lake effect areas with an additional 1-3" this afternoon, with pockets of 4"+ possible. As we move into Tuesday, a widespread blanket of 2-5", with pockets of 4-8" will overtake the Lake Michigan shoreline, eastern UP, and Keweenaw Peninsula. Temperature difference between water and air, plus adequate lift will fuel lake effect all the way through Wednesday morning. Additionally, we have a clipper moving through on Tuesday that will bring isolated pockets of 1-3" to the east side. Most locations should still be beneath an inch, however, too many variables are in play to not mention it.
Travel will be impacted along and west of US-131, with minor travel impacts all the way over to the US-127 corridor (I-75 north of Grayling). The clipper will be swinging through with the initial push of gusty winds after midnight tonight through 10 am Tuesday morning. Looks as if we are getting past the extreme cold, so riding should be a little more enjoyable.
