Frederic / Gaylord Area Trail Report – Sledheads of Frederic – 02/14

FREDERIC / GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic – 2/14

A lost cause of a winter, at least for all of us trolls below the Mackinaw Bridge. The u.p. has been rolling this season but all around us it has been horrible. LIke I said a couple weeks ago my first year open in Frederic I closed and went to the u.p. riding as it was all solid dirt around Frederic and not a flake of snow anywhere, that was in 96 or 97. At least the ground was white this year but just poor conditions.

There were some sleds out and about on friday and saturday but still slim and good slide and carbide wearing out conditions. Will we get one storm this season yet or not? I cant believe the amount of snow downstate, Kzoo looks like Grayling and Frederic should look. The whole winter thing is backwards this year. Blah, Blah, Blah………So lets see what happens this week. Happy Valentines Day to all. Thanks for checking in. Pete

Michigan Snowmobile Trail Report

WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> Lake effect snow continues today, stops, then resumes in intensity overnight into Tuesday, January 26th and 27th, 2026.
Discussion
Our west winds kick up to the 30-40 mph range later tonight. Prior to that happening, a northwest wind will batter some lake effect areas with an additional 1-3" this afternoon, with pockets of 4"+ possible. As we move into Tuesday, a widespread blanket of 2-5", with pockets of 4-8" will overtake the Lake Michigan shoreline, eastern UP, and Keweenaw Peninsula. Temperature difference between water and air, plus adequate lift will fuel lake effect all the way through Wednesday morning. Additionally, we have a clipper moving through on Tuesday that will bring isolated pockets of 1-3" to the east side. Most locations should still be beneath an inch, however, too many variables are in play to not mention it.
Travel will be impacted along and west of US-131, with minor travel impacts all the way over to the US-127 corridor (I-75 north of Grayling). The clipper will be swinging through with the initial push of gusty winds after midnight tonight through 10 am Tuesday morning. Again, this will be for totals starting at noon today, and lasting through 8 am EST Wednesday, with most of the snow falling throughout the entire day Tuesday. #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #marquette #munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsarea #gaylord #cadillac #benzie #traversecity #petoskeyLake effect snow continues today, stops, then resumes in intensity overnight into Tuesday, January 26th and 27th, 2026.

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Gaylord Michigan >> 1/26/26 - The song remains the same this week, as winter will leave us this pattern to lead us into more snow, thanks to the clipper parade. A few inches of snow or so are possible with each round, starting with a burst of snow tonight that will transition to NW to WNW flow lake effect. Highs in the teens will carry on, with cold signals holding on into early February. #miweather #gaylord #cadillac #benzie #traversecity #petoskey1/26/26 - The song remains the same this week, as winter will leave us this pattern to lead us into more snow, thanks to the clipper parade. FREDERIC - GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic , Michigan Snowmobiling >> Frosty and crunchy at 4 degrees on friday morning in Frederic, I saw the groomer heading out on 47 trail by the high school and 2 sleds right at that corner too. Already been several sleds in this morning and I made an early trip to the Sled Shed to get me some carbides for my ski doo. Those carbides have been on back order all season and I got the last set of 6 inch from Sled Shed. I wanted to make sure I get to ride again. I am happy to say that several riders told me that all trails they were on were well groomed. That is good to hear. The OSSA group were in here yesterday afternoon and they are staying up in Gaylord this year and at least we have great snow this year. Thanks Gary Hines for stopping in with everyone. Already sold the 4 pair of Gauntlets that I had this morning. My frederic-mi.com site is messed up again and Rebecca is on that. I was bummed to see the guys that were winter camping in my back lot left last night. I thought they were staying thru the weekend. Thanks for checking in. Pete #gaylord #snowphotos ... Michigan Snowmobile Trail Report

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Gaylord Michigan >> Dangerous wind chills will be widespread today, especially this morning. Wind chills in the 20s below zero; some areas could feel as cold as -30F. This will be dangerous, as frostbite can develop in as little as 30 minutes on exposed skin. Limit time outdoors and dress in layers. Keep a winter weather survival kit in your vehicle in case you get stranded.
Gusty northwest winds plus continued powdery lake effect snow will lead to significant reductions in visibility with whiteouts at times through this afternoon, especially in open areas where snow can easily blow around. Dangerous travel conditions are expected, and wind chills well below zero will be even more problematic if you end up stranded on the road. #miweather #gaylord #cadillac #benzie #traversecity #petoskeyDangerous wind chills will be widespread today, especially this morning. Munising Area Trail Report – 02/14

TRAIL REPORT February 14, 2022

GREAT RIDING CONDITIONS!

Light new snow and a hard flat base have the trail system in an overall very good condition. The cold weather really has the trails holding flat through the day. We did have a groomer structural failure last night so ride with caution on Trail 7 heading toward Christmas (see warning below). We will be down a machine for a day but other than that all is good so get out and enjoy some really nice riding conditions.

Keep doing the Cold Weather Snow Dancing and Stay Tuned for updates!

MUNISING AREA UPDATE via TNT Trenary Northern Trails –

Lake effect snow from over the weekend sure has helped the trail. Super cold temps tonight should help it set up tight. Trail will improve with the next couple of grooms. We could still use more snow, but you won’t be disappointed with what we have! Ride right and ride safe.
