Paradise Area Trail Report – 02/24

7 degrees this morning and cloudy. No new snow yesterday or last night but boy have we been hammered the couple days before! Sorry for no new reports since Monday but I have been a VERY busy man digging out and grooming. I haven`t given you a full run down on our system for a while so here we go…….
First off, remember we have a machine down, more on that at the end. Groomer Kevin ran the Falls trail #45 last night and rated it as very good to excellent. I ran the South trail #8 yesterday and will call it excellent. Even in the narrow sections (which tend to get bumpy) like the swamp and the federal forest section. The Pine Stump trail #8 is rated at good to very good but there still is a lot of drift issues out in "siberia". Groomer Mike C. is gonna hit that trail today. The Point trails #452 and #453 are only rated as good. This is because they are a tad bumpy cause they have not been run in a few days. Groomer Glenn is gonna hit them today as well. So thats the trails, here`s the rest of the story……
Like I said, we have a machine down. We got it figured out what we need to get it back up. We are ordering parts today so it just depends on how long it will take for them to get here. We still haven`t found the long lost wheel and tire out on trail #452. If you find it, please return it to us. That will save us about $1000. Since we are runnin a 2 machine schedule now, some of the trails won`t get run everyday. There simply isn`t enough time in a day to do that. We will run the Falls trail #45 everyday cause thats the shortest run we have and the busiest trail we have. We will run the other trails every other day but try to double up on the weekends. We are probably lookin at a couple weeks before we can get the other machine going. Soooo……thats what we have going. Please cut us some slack if you run across a bumpy trail, its outa our control.

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> Cold weather continues through Tuesday with highs only in the single digits and teens. Dangerously cold wind chills this morning and again tonight into Monday morning are expected, Cold Weather Advisories are in effect. 3 degrees this morning under a partly sunny sky. It was minus 6 when I went to bed last night at 10! No new snow last night but we did pick up 3-4" the night before. Just a quick report to keep ya`ll informed before I head out the door to go grooming myself. Here`s the scoop from yesterdays runs.....
Groomer Keith hit the Stump trails and called them good.
Groomer Patrick did the Falls trail and called that one good too.
Groomer Dave ran the South trail #8 and said the same, even the swamp is good to go!
Here`s a STRONG suggestion to the boondockers. Both Patrick and Dave told me they saw a lot of tracks off trail on the Falls trail and in the swamp. This is a VERY BAD idea as both trails still have a lot of water and soft spots where you could sink up to your arm pits. It is NOT SAFE to ride off trail in there where the trail is not packed in. If you get buried in there we cannot help cause we will not risk getting a groomer stuck!!! It is a very expensive towing bill too if you can find someone to help. Another tip, I am finding it very frustrating with some riders not yielding to the groomers. Its a long day for us to begin with and some riders are not getting to the side when they see us coming or blasting by us from behind. PLEASE just get over and let us by or wait for us to stop and let ya by from behind....PLEASE. Rant done
We plan on runnin the entire system today/tonight.
COME ON UP.....our trails are now in beautiful shape!!!!!!!!!!! A big plus is it looks like this cold will stick around for awhile too!!!!!!!!!!!!

10:08 Lot and Lots of time to ponder things out here, and we see things out here sooner, and better from our picture windows and Lazy Boys, I was wondering how many of you come into corners at a Very respectful safety minded speed only to find a series of Rupp eating craters that had you in an entirely different spot half way around and coming out of that corner?
In and outta Windy Corners, I've done better, not the snows fault, kept loosing my prime, most, very nice, its a personal goal thing.
Intell has informed me we've had help grooming a chunk of 9 tonight, I'll keep you posted 😉

Frostbite can occur in less than 10 minutes on exposed skin in this weather. These conditions will continue at least thru the early afternoon hours today. We will be sending out groomers today during daylight hours on the south route and north route, staying away from the lakeshore. NEGATIVE 2 degrees this morning and snowing. We picked up around 6" of snow yesterday and another 6 or so last night! It`s down right winter out der! All good news for yesterdays happenings so lets rock-n-roll.....
Groomer Mike C. took off in the morning and headed into da south swamp with just a machine. I took off with a machine and drag and headed south also but skipped the swamp section. Before I got done with the South trail #8, Mike radioed me and said hit the swamp with the drag on my way back. He got it packed in pretty good and it turned out good with the drag. It is only one lane for now but we`ll fix that tomorrow. THE GATES ARE NOW OPEN!!!!
After that Groomer Mike C. headed out on the Falls trail #45 with just the machine and Groomer Glenn pulling a drag following him. They got that trail packed in and groomed, it turned out great!!! Groomer Mike C. put in 12 hrs. in a machine yesterday filling and packing in water holes! Great job!!!
Today we are running the Pine Stump trails #8 & #9 and the Point trails #452 & #453. Not sure what we are gonna do with the other machine.
So......total green flag for our entire trail system!!!! COME ON UP and enjoy our hard work!!!!!!
