WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Gaylord Michigan >> Dangerous wind chills will be widespread today, especially this morning. Wind chills in the 20s below zero; some areas could feel as cold as -30F. This will be dangerous, as frostbite can develop in as little as 30 minutes on exposed skin. Limit time outdoors and dress in layers. Keep a winter weather survival kit in your vehicle in case you get stranded. Gusty northwest winds plus continued powdery lake effect snow will lead to significant reductions in visibility with whiteouts at times through this afternoon, especially in open areas where snow can easily blow around. Dangerous travel conditions are expected, and wind chills well below zero will be even more problematic if you end up stranded on the road. #miweather #gaylord#cadillac#benzie#traversecity#petoskeyDangerous wind chills will be widespread today, especially this morning. The weather has been very erratic over the past week! Our Michigan Snowmobile Festival was cancelled due to freezing rain earlier this week, however, we woke up to about 4-5 inches of fresh snow on Friday. Trails are in much better condition and are rated in fair condition, but may be icy in places. Keep THINKING SNOW!
As always, check back with us for updates and weather reports.
It’s 20 degrees and a sunny morning in downtown Frederic, the snow from yesterday held out pretty darn good from yesterday and I imagine it will make it thru today. Past that who knows. There were a good amount of sleds out and about around Frederic yesterday, certainly way more than there has been. My thoughts for the next week of winter, (if thats what you call it) is that unless a surprise storm hits us that it will be toast around here. Things are still nice and white around this morning as I looked at trail crossings on the way here. I had a call from Eric in Pennsylvania who wants to come to the u.p. to ride next week, they have had a rough winter there too and he said western new york never opened their trails till Jan 20 and closed them down on Feb 15. He is anxious to come to michigan and try the u.p.out. So many regulars that normally come in for the winter that I havent seen this season. Where the heck is Ohio Brian. ? The Obama tour was a no show this season too. Hard of Hearing MIke and the snow bunny havent been around in years, Illinois Mike and sadly Ohio Mike the chosen one passed away this past fall. Bad Leg Barry likes hanging out in Florida but at least Jr. does still come north. Bruce and the Forever Young family havent made it in either. All these people part of the Sledheads family of riders just sitting on the sidelines wishing for a real winter. The list could go on and on. Yesterday Spud & Darren from Ottowa Ohio stopped in and loaded up on new Sledheads shirts so thanks for the business guys. Pics below are Spud & Darren from yesterday and the nice deep snow trench is from Dave Klemish who was lucky enough to be in Marquette during the 21 inch overnight snow fall. Thanks for checking in. FREDERIC - GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic , Michigan Snowmobiling >> Frosty and crunchy at 4 degrees on friday morning in Frederic, I saw the groomer heading out on 47 trail by the high school and 2 sleds right at that corner too. Already been several sleds in this morning and I made an early trip to the Sled Shed to get me some carbides for my ski doo. Those carbides have been on back order all season and I got the last set of 6 inch from Sled Shed. I wanted to make sure I get to ride again. I am happy to say that several riders told me that all trails they were on were well groomed. That is good to hear. The OSSA group were in here yesterday afternoon and they are staying up in Gaylord this year and at least we have great snow this year. Thanks Gary Hines for stopping in with everyone. Already sold the 4 pair of Gauntlets that I had this morning. My frederic-mi.com site is messed up again and Rebecca is on that. I was bummed to see the guys that were winter camping in my back lot left last night. I thought they were staying thru the weekend. Thanks for checking in. Pete #gaylord#snowphotos...
