Sault Ste. Marie Trail Report – 12/19

SAULT STE. MARIE UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association – 12/19

Groomer Jay is headed out in the SxS to meet groomer Bill to clear a large downed tree on trail 889. He opened the gates on trail 8 between the Soo and Brimley along the way. We are not grooming just yet as we still need more snow but we encourage sleds to ride as it helps pack it down. Please be mindful that it is still very early season and there is little base and potential hidden hazards under the snow. Ride safe and please report to us if you see any hazards.

Also a word of caution at trail 8 and Irish Line Road as you head west from Brimley toward Raco- there is a new culvert that will not be an issue once covered in deeper snow but for now, it sticks out a bit. Use caution when riding through there please!
Gates are not open on 49 south of 12 mile or 472 to 480 through the Spile Dam due to extreme wet conditions and lack of snow. As soon as we get word that it is safe to open them, we will share.
Ride safe, think snow! See you soon!❄️❄️❄️

Jay and I hit the city trails last night and they are in good shape. Some choppy spots due to heavier traffic earlier, but we smoothed them out as best we could and saw very little traffic on our run.
Snow was falling the whole run and should be a beautiful ride in the morning.
Enjoy! ❄️❄️❄️ #soo #soo0119 #snowphotos

Sault Ste. Marie Trail Report – 12/18

SAULT STE. MARIE UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association – 12/18

Happy Sunday! Snow gauge is currently reading about 7” with snow falling as I type this. Keep dancing! Won’t be long and the gates will be opened and the groomers will be out.❄️❄️❄️
For now, we are still getting out and doing what we can. Here’s what groomer Pete had to say after he, new groomer Zeke, and OG (original groomer) Ben were out this morning working on part of the city trail-
“After hearing about some trees down and some signs needing correction, a quick work party was organized to ensure the trails are safe for early season riding. We worked Trail 49 from the groomer barn to the business spur, by the city airfield. This section is almost impassable in the off season due to deep water. Many water holes are freezing up well, but the larger ones over natural springs are still open. We cut two trees, corrected 3 hazards markers, moved some logs, and identified a couple missing signs that will be corrected by vehicle. We saw a few sled tracks, please remember there is no base, and water holes are still open. With forecasted low temps in the next week, we should be freezing up well soon.”
We did also get word that there is a tree down on 889 (The Mission Hill Overlook loop). We will get out to it as soon as we can. If anyone in the area is able to ride out with a saw and safely cut and remove it before we can, please let us know.
We will continue to update and it looks like the forcast from here on out is very favorable to get things rolling very soon!
Thanks to all volunteers and also to you riders for letting us know when you see a hazard!
Ride safe!❄️❄️❄️
