A weekend update: We will be open and serving food Saturday, 1/28 from 12pm to 4pm and Sunday, 1/29 from 12pm to 3pm. There is snow! It’s not great snow. It’s not much snow. But it’s more than we’ve seen in weeks. Groomers are out panning trails and trying to get a base established. Some people were out riding today- again, not ideal conditions, but it’s something. The extended forecast looks like colder temps than we’ve been seeing, and some snow here and there..just a matter of how much we get. Beau and Knox have 1pm and 3pm hayride times available tmrw! We are also offering discounted rides for all school employees on Saturday 1/28. 231-947-9529 to reserve a ride and secure your discount. Please leave a vm for a return call. 🐴🐴

WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> This is our last call snowfall outlook for FRIDAY ONLY, January 16th, 2026. Snow has begun across parts of the UP, and will begin for the rest of the state over the course of the next 12 hours.... #miweather #keweenaw#westernup#marquette#munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsarea#gaylord #cadillac #benzie#traversecity#petoskeyThis is our last call snowfall outlook for FRIDAY ONLY, January 16th, 2026. Snow has begun across parts of the UP, and will begin for the rest of the state over the course of the next 12 hours.
A clipper will bring a mixture of synoptic snow and lake effect snow for the entirety of Michigan. This is the first of multiple clippers between now and Monday. Lake effect areas may see totals into the 4-8" zone, with localized heavier totals possible along the Porcupine Mountains in the western UP. We DO have ample moisture on our atmospheric profiles for tomorrow, but the forcing is still suspect, so a solid blanket of 1-4" of snow, with isolated higher totals close to half a foot should occur by the end of our day Friday. The greatest chance at an area underachieving is in... guess what... southeast Michigan. Monroe and Lenawee counties specifically were in the T-1" zone at first call, but with a more-moist profile expected tomorrow, all locations (in an ideal world) should at least hit 1". We are also watching for the development of freezing drizzle mixing in, primarily in the Lower Peninsula as low-level temperatures favor this phenomena. Now, drizzle would hinder totals, but significantly increase travel issues as roads get coated with both the drizzle and the wet snow. We will have a freezing drizzle accumulation map out tomorrow morning.
Winds gusting 25-35 mph at times, primarily out of the west. Some snow squalls will mix in, which for those who don't remember, snow squalls exist to only cause headaches. These narrow bands of snow drop visibility from open skies to mere feet in the matter of seconds, which is never good, especially on fast-moving roadways. A snow squall can put down as much as a quick inch in 15-30 minutes at their peak intensity. Both morning and evening commutes will be impacted by snow or drizzle. Let's hope we don't light up the MDOT drive map with 25 accidents this time around, so please take your time. Give yourself that extra hour to travel, especially in instances of forced slow downs.

TRAVERSE CITY AREA UPDATE via Grand Traverse Area Snowmobile Club >> Just waiting on some snow.....we were forecasted to get 2 to 7 inches the other day. The majority of the trails system received about an inch of snow. One narrow snow band set up and put down about 5-6 inches of fluff. The trail base is a bit icy but smooth. We have a couple of inches forecasted each day for the next 5 days. We anticipate getting the groomer back out soon. I will update you when this happens or just keep an eye out for them on Groomer Tracker. Remember, Ride Right, Ride Safe, Ride Sober. #traversecity... See MoreSee Less
WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Gaylord Michigan >> Snow returns tonight west of I-75 before overspreading the rest of the area into Friday. Light accumulations expected for most, but areas near the Lake Michigan shore will see more snowfall… with some spots potentially seeing upwards of 8”+ by Friday evening. Following the system, rounds of lake effect snow are anticipated into next week with colder weather. Be sure to monitor the forecast for the latest updates! #miweather #gaylord #cadillac #benzie#traversecity#petoskey... See MoreSee Less
WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Gaylord Michigan >> Below zero wind chills continue this morning across most of Northern Michigan. Winds chills will be in the teens below zero or colder in parts of eastern upper and north central Lower Michigan. Be sure to bundle up! A cold Thursday is ahead, though our weather will otherwise be relatively quiet with decreasing lake effect snow and decreasing winds. Another system will spread snow back into the area late tonight into Friday. Several inches of accumulation are possible near Lake Michigan in both peninsulas. This system will allow temperatures to briefly rebound early this weekend. However, Arctic air settles back in by Monday, with continued lake effect snow showers in the snowbelts. #miweather #gaylord #cadillac #benzie#traversecity#petoskey... See MoreSee Less
WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Gaylord Michigan >> Lake effect snow showers will continue into tonight across parts of northern Michigan. SAULT STE. MARIE UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association – 01/27
Trail 49 update 1/27 Good evening!
Big progress tonight but still not officially open. Our trouble spots are still from Alberta Lane to 5 1/2 mile, and south of Devils Hill where the beaver pond is. It’s solid enough for sleds but not the groomer just yet. Steve was out there tonight. Here’s his detailed report.
“As most know, Trail 49 from the Soo to Kinross has been closed for the last few weeks due to standing water, open mud holes, and overall unsafe conditions.
We as a club have been watching the weather and trying to put a plan in place to safely work towards reopening this section of trail.
First off, I want to thank one of our active club members, Randy Menard, who spent a couple days this week photographing all the problem areas that led to the closing of this trail. The pictures were shared with our groomer drivers where we all had a chance to see what we were up against.
I think I may have been the first one who was comfortable with what was shown in the pictures, which led to tonight’s grooming run. Lol.
We decided yesterday, we were going to go in with a groomer, and start preparing this trail to reopen.
I’m not going to lie, there are some anxious moments that lead up to a run like this. We are heading into a swamp, with a couple miles of standing water. Once you commit to going in, there is no place to turn around for a really long stretch.
I contacted my good friend Chris, who is a regular passenger with me on this section of trail. He is a former snowmobiler, and someone I can count on to hop in and ride along knowing exactly what we are driving into. I want to thank Chris too for stepping up and coming with me tonight. There is a lot going on in a groomer, and the passenger seat is nerve wracking too. We left after work tonight, and headed out in heavy snow with increasing winds. You’ll see in our pics, visibility was poor. It stayed this way most of the night.
We hopped on the trail and headed south. It was slow going most of the night. I don’t think it could get any rougher than it currently is.
I am happy to report a large part of the trail is froze solid. We did sink the groomer once, but with the lockers engaged and careful driving we were able to get ourselves out. We made it all the way to Devil’s Hill, which is just north of the beaver pond between 12 Mile Rd and Gaines Hwy. The return trip went well and it was sure a relief when we could see the lights in the Soo.
We avoided the trail behind the county road commission. It is still wet and not quite ready for a groomer.
We knocked down some high spots but didn’t really improve the trail much. I wasn’t comfortable carrying much snow with me in the drag tonight. I was trying to keep the weight down to give us a better chance to stay on top of the ice. We will be in contact with the DNR and will keep working towards getting this trail reopened.
Hopefully we have some good news to share soon. Steve Lawson”
Thanks all! Getting closer every day! Appreciate your work and report Steve! ❄️❄️❄️

Hi again! While Steve was out on 49, Nick was over in Raco and Brimley on trail 8, the powerline, and part of 480. From Nick tonight- “3 inches of lake effect snow really helped shape the trails up tonight. No complaints from ranger road to Brimley to Spile dam! 10/10” Thanks Nick! Ride safe and enjoy, all!❄️❄️❄️

SAULT STE. MARIE AREA UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association >> 1/14/26 Good evening! We saw a huge temperature swing today, after wet snow and rain later in the day yesterday. 35 last night, 1 tonight with negative windchills🥶 Lane and Randy went on a mission today to work on trail 49 where some water holes opened up during the warm up. Here’s what Lane had to say, and photos to give you all a visual- “I took 49 north out of Kinross to try to work on a water hole just south of 9 mile. I took Randy along with me and I was glad I did, he was a big help. That hole is a very deep hole. We filled it with as much ice and snow as we could. It is not pretty, but should freeze in good with these temps. We also worked on a few other water spots that filled in great. The bridge just south of 8 mile had a trench of water on the bridge. That filled in good and will freeze up good also. All the rest of the trail is great. The swamp south of 12 mile held up great and groomed really nice.” Thank you, Lane and Randy! The timing for this work could not be better. Mid week traffic is light, temps are frigid, and there’s not any significant snow forecasted, so these spots should really lock up now. The work that our operators put in to the spot south of 11 mile, and near Devils Hill are holding up awesome, even after the warm up the last few days. This trail continues to improve with each run, and is still so far ahead of where we normally are this time in the season. Ride safe and stay warm! ❄️❄️❄️ #soo #soo0114b#snowphotos... SAULT STE. MARIE AREA UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association >> 1/14/26 Brimley Bill did the Brimley to Raco route tonight, which is 8 between Brimley and Ranger Rd, and 480 from the Spile Dam Turnaround to 8. Here’s what he had to say- “The base is real solid. There were sections of trail with a lot of drifts on the edges. I was able to cut into all the drifts with the Dubie wings, and pull the snow back into the trail. The result is trails that are smooth and flat across the width of the trail.“ Looks awesome, thank you Bill!! 🙌🏼 #soo #soo0114#snowphotos... See MoreSee Less
