Newberry Trail Report – 01/28

NEWBERRY AREA UPDATE via TASA – 01/28

*We have one groomer down and one only partially working, we are doing the best we can with what we have!

January28, 2023 12 pm

The trails are good in the majority of the area we did receive 10" of fresh snow last night. We groomed to the falls last night and got the groomer fixed enough to make the run back from winter haven to the groomer barn. We do still have one groomer down so we will do what we can. Today we are running north to holland lake and 45 to the falls and if everything goes well tonight we will head south to Borgstrum rd after the groomer returns from the falls. Every trail has some logging on it also there are some water holes still open in a few spots so please ride with caution and care! The details are below for specific trail grooming.
In other news we are raffling off a a 2023 Polaris Sportsman 450 Donated by Renze Power Sports.

Tickets: $100.00 each

Drawing held April 22, 2023 @ 7:00pm at the Elks Lodge in Newberry

300 tickets printed

If less than 125 tickets are sold then the raffle will revert to a 50/50 drawing.

Tickets can be purchased from: Renze Power Sports, Halfway Lake Cottages, North Store Follow Me Outfitters, Pine Stump Restaurant, Schubach Farms Cabin Rentals, or
Rich Rottier 616-550-8201.

Proceeds will go to fund trail grooming equipment! Good Luck!
Stay on the Trail!! Ride Right and Be Safe!! Please be respectful of private property, howbeit it fields or peoples front yards.
Curfew in the Village of Newberry is 11:00pm to 7:00am.

Trail 9: We groomed south from winter haven to the groomer barn last night. Good! logging operations are finishing up but county road 422 is still being plowed to finish hauling everything out, so be careful roads are icy.

Trail 498: not done yesterday. Very Good.

Trail 45: The gate is open to the Falls. We are currently grooming out to the falls. There is logging on the trail shortly after you jump on Trail 45 just past the Logging museum off of M-123. There is also be logging about 3 miles North of Skyline Road off to the right. Please use extreme caution in these areas! Both portions are being plowed and could be bumpy or rutted. Very Good to excellent in spots!!

Trial 9/2: We did not groom last due to mechanical issues. Very Good.

Thank you to all the team at the groomers barn who puts in countless hours to keep the system groomed and maintenance on the machines!

Your grooming team from the TASA Barn!!

Michigan Snowmobile Trail Report

WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> This is our last call snowfall outlook for FRIDAY ONLY, January 16th, 2026. Snow has begun across parts of the UP, and will begin for the rest of the state over the course of the next 12 hours.... #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #marquette #munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsarea #gaylord #cadillac #benzie #traversecity #petoskeyThis is our last call snowfall outlook for FRIDAY ONLY, January 16th, 2026. Snow has begun across parts of the UP, and will begin for the rest of the state over the course of the next 12 hours.

A clipper will bring a mixture of synoptic snow and lake effect snow for the entirety of Michigan. This is the first of multiple clippers between now and Monday. Lake effect areas may see totals into the 4-8" zone, with localized heavier totals possible along the Porcupine Mountains in the western UP. We DO have ample moisture on our atmospheric profiles for tomorrow, but the forcing is still suspect, so a solid blanket of 1-4" of snow, with isolated higher totals close to half a foot should occur by the end of our day Friday. The greatest chance at an area underachieving is in... guess what... southeast Michigan. Monroe and Lenawee counties specifically were in the T-1" zone at first call, but with a more-moist profile expected tomorrow, all locations (in an ideal world) should at least hit 1". We are also watching for the development of freezing drizzle mixing in, primarily in the Lower Peninsula as low-level temperatures favor this phenomena. Now, drizzle would hinder totals, but significantly increase travel issues as roads get coated with both the drizzle and the wet snow. We will have a freezing drizzle accumulation map out tomorrow morning.

Winds gusting 25-35 mph at times, primarily out of the west. Some snow squalls will mix in, which for those who don't remember, snow squalls exist to only cause headaches. These narrow bands of snow drop visibility from open skies to mere feet in the matter of seconds, which is never good, especially on fast-moving roadways. A snow squall can put down as much as a quick inch in 15-30 minutes at their peak intensity. Both morning and evening commutes will be impacted by snow or drizzle. Let's hope we don't light up the MDOT drive map with 25 accidents this time around, so please take your time. Give yourself that extra hour to travel, especially in instances of forced slow downs.

PARADISE AREA UPDATE via Paradise Area Night Riders www.paradiseareanightriders.org >> 1/15/26
2 degrees this morning with a weird freezing fog/misty snow mix in the air. Everything is all white outside....really pretty. After enduring a few days and nights above freezing we finally got the break we needed from Mother Nature and it looks like its gonna stick around for quite a while!!! So here`s our plan......
We are running the Stump trail and the Point trails today but are gonna skip the far north section of the Point trail to let it freeze up more. Tomorrow we are heading south with 2 machines w/o drags and see if we can fix the water holes that opened up on the power line and in the Federal Forest, then Saturday run the high ground trails again and Sunday head to the Falls trail and see what we got. If all goes well hit the swamp south of town on Monday. Gonna be REAL busy for a while. I think we will need more help from Mother Nature with some snow but by next week we should be in better shape. Wish us luck!!!!
LET `ER SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Keweenaw Peninsula Trail Report – 01/28

KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Keweenaw Trail Reports – 01/28

Jana Jannene Normandy rode the Keweenaw yesterday and shared this great photo from the Copper Harbor overlook!
Jana said, “we rode north out of Houghton on trails 17, 3 & 134 to Copper Harbor. On the way up trails were smooth and not much traffic. Beautiful! Lunch at The Mariner Restaurant-EXCELLENT food!
We attempted to ride out to High Rock, but that trail was rough and had open water so a no go. Trails on the way back had some washboard as we got closer to Houghton.”
Thanks for sharing Jana! Glad you had a great day!!
We are slowly, but surely racking up some more snow❄️ here in the Keweenaw! We have received about 6+ inches over the past few days and the cold 🥶 temps are moving in! We all know that means a good possibility for lake effect snow with Lake Superior still pretty open! ❄️💃
If riding the Keweenaw this weekend please stop in TODAY at The Trailside Lodge from 11am -4pm for the Keweenaw Snowmobile Club Cookout & Bonfire! All are welcome! Trailside Lodge is located right on trail 17 in Calumet!
Please be aware while riding
⚠️ some of the water holes (as pictured below on trail 130) may not be frozen over yet. Ride with caution ⚠️
⚠️ Trail 133 is not recommended as it has been opened this season but not groomed. It has been pretty rough and wet. You can still get to Lac La Belle via trail 132 and to Gay via trail 124. (If you do ride trail 133, please let us know any review you have of conditions)
🛑Trail 122 is only PARTIALLY open from the trail 3/122 junction in Lake Linden to Sawmill Rd/the entrance to the Valley Sno Drifters trail to Dreamland Restaurant. Trail 122 after it hits Sawmill Rd to connect with Valley Sno Drifters trail to Dreamland Restaurant & Bar is CLOSED! Trail 122 can not be used as a connection to Gay/trail 124!
🚫Trail 3 from Dollar Bay to Lake Linden and trails 120/121-Freda Loop are closed due to the damage from the Fathers Day Flood of 2018
See current daily snowfall amounts and compare previous seasons here: https://www.keweenawcountyonline.org/snowfall2.php
