Cadillac / Baldwin Area Trail Report – Wolf Lake Motel and Resort – 12/18

Hi Everyone, as per the grooming coordinators, as of 12-17-09, IATA, Wellston, Cadillac and Benzie/Manistee trails are all groomed. As per our guest Baldwin and White Pine trails are groomed, plus the forecast for the weekend sounds good with temps in the twenties and LES snow most days. (If you can believe a forecast). Our guest that we have been here this week have been very happy with all the trails and they are rating the conditions good to very good, but again this is early season riding and the ground is not completely frozen, so trail conditions can change fast with the temp. Almost all the roads are snow covered so getting fuel or food shouldn’t be a problem and there is tons of snow in the woods, so "two trackin" will be fun. THE LAKES ARE NOT SAFE YET.

Rooms and Snowmobile Rentals are available.

We are members of the Cycle Conservation Club of Michigan, Baldwin Trailriders Snowmobile Club, Benzie/Manistee Snowbirds Snowmobile Club, Irons Area Tourist Association Snowmobile Club, Wellston Area Recreation and Tourist Bureau Snowmobile Club, Lake County ORV Club and the Michigan Snowmobile Association, which are the local grooming clubs. I can not thank these guys and gals enough, they do a lot of work for free, so we all can enjoy this sport. I would only think that if someone is complaining about a bumpy trail on Saturday afternoon, come to a couple club meetings and see just what these people do. They would never complain again. Thank you again.

Call 231 745 4101 8am until 10pm. See ya soon on the trails.

Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 12/18

Looks like a great weekend for riding. Overall trails Fair to Good…some better than good…(and a couple spots likely worse than fair.)
Groomers from the Gogebic Range Trail Authority, Gogebic Area Grooming, U.P. Thunder Riders of Watersmeet, and North Country Snowmobile Club in Ontonagon are all out on the trails.
Gogebic Range Trail Authority. A ‘heads up’ – trail 11S is closed for about a week due to logging, but the good news on this trail is they are working on a permanent re-route around that wet hole that causes so much trouble. Again the closure shouldn’t last too long and we’ll keep you informed. In addition, 11N has NOT been groomed yet, as there are still too wet to groom.
Gogebic Area Groomers-everything is freshly groomed-they report trails flat and hard right now…a few rough areas where there was logging are well marked.
Watersmeet are groomer reporting all trails freshly groomed.
In Ontonagon, one of two groomers is out…the other expects to be in action next week…watch for ice East on Trail 12, Norwich Rd. and LP Walsh.
Remember, the groomers can be out any time of the day or night so PLEASE pull over when you see them.
Keep in mind, although MI trails opened December 1st, they may or may not be groomed. WI Trails are now officially open.
Check out web cams throughout the area to see the snow amounts for yourself. Find links on our website at westernup.info
