Benzie Area Trail Report – Benzie Bureau – 01/17

Benzie-Manistee Snowmobile Club – 01/16

We had many riders this weekend, trails are fair to good. Groomed reports: All done Saturday #1 south groomed from High Bridge to Kaleva and near Crystal mountain. Middle #2 groomed Bear Lake spur thru Thompsonville. North #3 groomed Empire to Maple City. Trail conditions: The trail is fair to good, some base (fluff doesn’t pack good) but ride-able. We have gotten 8 to 10 inches of snow, with blowing drifts. It was predicted for lake effect flurries until change comes late Tuesday or Wednesday. Weather forecast: We got snow this week. Possibly snow flurries, they are calling for lake effect flurries at night with single digits temps, daytime in 20’s with light winds. Things will change on Tuesday night possible more snow. They say with a power punch clipper moving in possibly snow through next weekend. We will see how clipper does Tuesday. Sing and dance to the skies snow machine to let it snow. Thank you for your help!!

PLEASE DON’T FORGET TO STAY ON THE TRAILS. Trails is a special granted privilege to ride accross individuals private property. It’s Not our right to travel freely through-out land-owners property, farm land, field or yard. So let us not abuse the privilege or we may lose it.

Monday Monday. Well we got a bit of snow over the weekend but it looked better coming down than it did sticking. At least it was enough to get the groomers out again, they did all three Saturday and will be going back out tonite. It was the fluffy stuff that came down though so belw around and didn’t help set up more base. Trails are still pretty rough but at least the groomers are able to be out, doing what they can. Forecast says we could get aother 3 inches tonite and a couple toniet, so lets hope so! Cold temps again too so bundle up in the layers! Note! When you are in the area, stop in to the Snowbirds clubhouse, Saturdays thru Jan & Feb! Every Saturday 10am -4pm. is Open House day at the Club! Everyone’s welcome to stop by to warmup and visit! Please, do me a favor…to keep ALL parts of the trails open for us, STAY ON THE TRAIL! This means YOU! Its not just a given that we get every inch of trail for our fun. We gotta stay on track at all times! By the way, those groomers are out there volunteering their time and energy to us, so if ya see one, get outta their way and give them a thumbs up as they go by! THANKS to Stormi for the email and awesome pics! And thanks to Paul for the email too! I love getting your letters and pics! Ride smart, sober, & safe! CYA ON THE TRAILS! Carol

Keweenaw Peninsula Trail Report – 01/17

9.5 inches over the weekend – and it’s still snowing. Both cross country and snowmobile trails are in great shape! A reminder to snowmobilers – please stay off the ice!!! Use the bridge! A rider went through the ice on Portage Lake last week -not a good thing!

The snowmobile trails from TwinLakes to CopperHarbor are open, and groomers are out working on them. Trails are reported to be in good to very good condition except for the High Rock trail which is in poor to fair condition due to low snow.

Remember to watch out for the groomers when you’re out on the trails…….they have the right of way!!
There is logging on a short portion of Trail 133 between Gay and Lac La Belle.

The Keweenaw Convention & Visitors Bureau asks that you stay on the trails, STAY OFF THE ICE, respect private property, do not drink and drive, and above all else, please, drive safely. The signs on the snowmobile trails are there for the riders’ safety. Please, DO NOT remove or destroy these signs.
