Newberry Trail Report – Visit Newberry – 01/06

TASA Trail Report
January 6, 2011 5:30 pm

It’s snowing we have about 5 new inches on the ground with more coming!! I will update the amounts of snow we have late tonight. Hopefully we will be able to get back to grooming the trails soon.

Trail in town is in poor condition.

Trail 9 north to Pine Stump has a 1 – 4 inch base and is in poor to fair condition

Trail 45 has a 1 – 3 inch base and is in poor condition. The trail is starting to freeze with Highs in the 20s and Lows in the teens, but there is not enough snow to groom.

The DNRE has opened the trail from the 500 to the falls but has not been groomed due to lack of snowfall. In the open areas the snow base is thin, but in the wooded areas of the trail we still have a fair base.

The Newberry trail 9 to Rexton is in poor condition with a 1 – 3 inch base, please watch for the water hole north of Borgstrom road in Hemlock Ridge. From Rexton south to the wooden bridge 473 to Epoufette is rough from logging and lack of snow. The deer are out and moving so please watch for them. Please be careful on the trails and watch for icy spots. We are expecting 8 inches or more starting Thursday afternoon and going into Friday night, hopefully this does happen and we will be back out on the trails as soon as there is enough snow. Only about 1 inch of snow fell overnight, still expecting the storm starting this afternoon and into Friday and Saturday morning. Expecting around 1 -3 inches today.

Grayling Trail Report – Fay’s Motel – 01/06

Greetings Idled Sledders,

Idled in terms of Grayling anyway.

We’ve got about 3" of LE fluff on the ground and it looks like the winds are going to turn on us and send the snow to our old stomping grounds in the Cassopolis, Niles, South Bend area.

It’s beginning to look a lot like last year as there’s nothing on the horizon system wise although temps look to maintain. So I guess that’s good news for the 6 ice fishermen that still have jobs and continue to visit the area.

I’m rating the trails at a poor at best and it’s definitely time for the second co-ed naked snow dance of the year.

Ride Often and Please Be Safe,
Keith, Sandy and The Girls

At Fay’s Motel enjoy direct access to the Grayling Area snowmobile trails.
