Cadillac Area Trail Report – 03/01

Thursday, March 1, 2012 – The snow gauge is showing 9 inches this morning but that doesn’t give a true picture. We received 4 or 5 inches Tuesday night/Wednesday morning followed by a rain/sleet mix. That packed our new snow considerably. Then last night we picked up a couple more inches of fluff of the hard pack. There should be great riding today but be wary of what is under the new snow. It could be ice.

Don’t think we have lost much snow to speak of since the last report. We’ve just had a lot of wind to blow it around and pack it down good. The trails in for forest are wonderful except for a couple of trouble spots mentioned before south of 10 Mile Road and the logging area near Poplar Creek on Trail 37. The in town trail took a beating this weekend and is bare in several spots making for poor riding conditions. Saturday the White Pine Trail was covered and reported in good riding condition. However, bare spots on the trail were noted from the highway on Monday. We are not grooming the White Pine or in-town trail at this time until we get more snow. The groomers in the forest are running daily.

Now for the approaching storm…we sure hope we get some serious snow and not the ice and rain that appears to be predicted. We’ll keep you informed.

Snow accumulation: 9 inches*

St. Ignace Trail Report – 03/01

Holly cow, MARCH already. Seems like the winter hasn’t even really started, and it is March already. As you have heard, we finally got a real winter storm yesterday, kinda like a December storm to tell you the truth. Got around 4-5″ of good very heavy snow, and huge winds. Things are mostly covered out there, but the thin spots are still a little thin as the winds swept the snow through. The groomers are trying to pull snow along and pack it into those areas on todays and tomorrows runs. Groomers will run everyday through Saturday night, so the trails should be very good to great after they blow the snow drifts out. Wayne found some thin areas, and also drifts as high as the blade on the North loop last night, Dave is out in the Iggy machine now, and I will update the Southern loop when he gets in.

Things are looking up, and we should have a couple of weeks of great riding ahead of us with the snow we have, anything more over the weekend will be gravy.
