Trail Update 12/11/25.
Good morning all and welcome to the first trail update of the season. I’ve been a bit slow getting these started. Temps have been well below freezing since thanks giving. We had 1 big snow over Thanksgiving that dumped about 10 inches. Since then, up until last night its been a couple inches here and there a few times a week. Last night into this morning we picked up a solid 8. Were at a solid 2 ft for the season so far. Trails are decent as long as they arent in the swamps. Traffic overall is low with it being early season and all the snow from Gaylord North. Not gunna lie, alot of you are missing out.
9 from Newberry to Pinestump is good. Its been panned and groomed a few times now.
45 to the Falls is Closed at the 500. Swamp is still doing swamp things but temps are staying below freezing. Hopefully in the next week or so it will open.
9/2 South. TASA went down to Epoffete a few days ago. The last system we got came out of the south and dumped aboutb10 inches.
Surrounding clubs are hit and miss because of swaps. Paradise hasnt been out much. They have a groomer that wasnt happt when they fired it up and have. Mechanic taking a look at it. 45 to Newberry is closed because of the swamp. You can gst to Paradise from the north on 8/9. 452 and 453 have water holes so be carefull if your wanting to make that loop.
Curtis has been to Newberry and reports are good. Some of their other trails are in the swamp and are not open. Check there page out for more details.
Seney has been out as well and made it over to 9 on 431 a few days ago.
I wouldnt hesitate to come up if your looking for a ride. It’s still early season so be sure to check in on the socials of# the clubs in the area your riding for current updates.

I know you all have some pretty spectacular equipment I see on trail 9, but we all know who has the best seat in the house don’t we..😎
We’re back at it, squishing in another 6″ or so leaving town, spreading it out like butter. 😊
Yesterday I shoveled a good foot off my deck in Newberry, was clean 4-5 days before, it just keeps coming 2″, 3″, 6″, still 5″ -6″ fresh the entire trip so far today, turned and headed up to Holland Lake Park and Ride.

NEWBERRY AREA UPDATE via TASA Tahquamenon Area Snowmobile Association >> Did you miss us? We're Back! We discussed our community 😊 Very pleased with what we're finding so far, lost some base, knew that, 10 miles out, 2 groups of 6 sleds from behind leaving town. Squishing any water into the in the low spots into the snow, cool if you can go around and let them freeze up smooth, but now major damage at all and its been snowing since I left town. #newberry #snowphotos... WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> Lake effect snow ends over the north-northwest wind snow belts today. A couple more fluffy inches and some blowing snow is still expected over the north central and eastern U.P. this morning. A quick hitting system looks to bring 1 to 4 fluffy inches of snowfall tonight through Saturday morning. West to northwest winds as high as 45 mph are expected to make a return over the Keweenaw on Saturday. #miweather #keweenaw#westernup#marquette#munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsareaLake effect snow ends over the north-northwest wind snow belts today. PARADISE AREA UPDATE via Paradise Area Night Riders www.paradiseareanightriders.org >> 12/19/25 15 degrees this morning and snowing. We got just a light dusting last night. Yesterday was a night mare. I hit 43 degrees here and got about a 1/4 inch of rain. We lost quite a bit of snow. Looking out my window I would say I have just less than a foot left. We were off to a good start! The big thing I think people don`t realize is that the snow melt has to go somewhere. Our trail system has a lot of low country and guess where the water goes....right.....back into the swamps! This water then gets warmed a bit because of the rotting vegetation and there you have it.....more darn water holes on the trails!!!! This is the main reason we can`t get going as early as some of the other surrounding clubs do. As far as our plans go.....It looks like the weather is gonna cool back down to normal for the next few days. We are gonna let things freeze back up and then Sunday we are gonna send 2 machines w/o drags down the Falls trail #45 and see what we got. Trails #452 & #453 around the Point are ridable but thin in areas, they are not groomed yet, just packed. Trail #8 to da Stump is groomed but it is thin in spots too. Trail #8 south is just packed and the gates into the Federal Forest section are closed because of water. Thats about it for now. This thaw really hurt our plans. LET `ER SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and stay cold Groomer Chris #paradise #newberry ... See MoreSee Less

NEWBERRY - EASTERN U.P. UPDATE via Clarke Motel >> UPDATE.....With all the calls and messages today after the warm day yesterday and the rain, here is how we faired here!! First off two of my guests rode 80 miles this morning from here to Brimley and then up the 8 to the closed Paradise gate and back, they were very happy with the trails so far. I just returned from taking videos at multiple trail crossings in our area, also took a Pic out my truck window of the current conditions here at the Clarke and also driving down M28. Now with that said, some low areas in trails where slush and water stood yesterday may not be froze yet today, the temp is 13 degrees right now and the feels like is minus 4. So things changed quick, its currently snowing lightly now. #newberry #snowphotos... See MoreSee Less

WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> Lake effect totals through Friday afternoon, December 19th, 2025 have been updated slightly to account for latest shifts in atmospheric conditions. Discussion As temperatures fall early Friday, moisture pools back in, mixed with colder air over the warmer lakes, turning on the lake effect machine for both of the Great Lakes that influence our normal lake effect zones. A respectable 1-3" to 2-5" is possible in the fairly typical areas shown on the map. The narrow lane of higher elevation across the Keweenaw Peninsula and Porcupine Mountains are most-likely to experience totals exceeding 6". You may have noticed our one main change was the expansion of T-1" over to the east side of the state just as a general precaution to any snow squalls that make it across the state. Not everyone will get a rogue snow squall, but it is in the odds for nearly everyone. A snow squall is a thin, but intense band of quick snow that can produce at least half an inch of snow in minutes time, while knocking visibility down from 10 miles, to a quarter mile in moments time. Additionally, a quick coating of snow may hide any ice that was able to form from the freeze later tonight. Lake effect snow and snow squalls are poised to start later this evening around 8 pm EST (earlier for the western UP), and run primarily through 1 pm EST Friday. A couple lake effect bands may last through 6 pm across northern Michigan near Gaylord, and the central UP near Munising. Each area is never guaranteed the totals shown on the screen. This is why we call it a prediction. The totals that are shown however do have the greatest odds of occurring. Yes, we are still trying to find that crystal ball, but no luck to this point. Follow us here at Michigan Storm Chasers for forecast updates, and a little humor on the side, throughout the next few days, and as always, 365 days a year! #miweather #keweenaw#westernup#marquette#munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsarea#gaylord#cadillac#benzie#traversecity#petoskeyLake effect totals through Friday afternoon, December 19th, 2025 have been updated slightly to account for latest shifts in atmospheric conditions.

Groomer Ken got out to play off trail in the Raco area today on the forest service roads. He said there’s lots of fluff and to be mindful off trail for stumps and rocks as the base on the off trail roads and 2 tracks is still building. Love when our volunteers get to get out and play a bit!
Thanks for sharing, Ken! ❄️❄️❄️

Hello everyone!
‼ Important trail notice!!! ‼
You may have seen us talk about the construction on trails 472 & 480 in the Spile Dam area between Raco, Rudyard, and Kinross.
There is MAJOR construction in there to build a brand new bridge, as well as build up the road (from sand/dirt to gravel). There is a ton of equipment in there.
While we do not have authority to close the trail, we are strongly advising that you avoid this area until further notice. The gate on the Raco end remains closed.
We cannot groom from Tilson road on 472 all the way to just the other side of the Raco gate on 480.
I wanted to share a visual on the map of where we are talking about. The green area in the rectangle is where we are asking you to avoid, for your own safety, and the safety of the contractors.
Expected completion is sometime in January, weather depending. We will update as we learn more.
I’ll pin this post so that it’s easy to reference.

SAULT STE. MARIE AREA UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association >> 12/19/25 The switch has flipped! We went from 42 and rain last night to 18 and snow flurries currently. Wild! Word is that the roads are absolutely horrible, and area schools have been cancelled. No doubt, trails will be solid ice until the new snow starts to pile up. As soon as I have any idea what the trails look like, I’ll be sure to share, but wanted to at least share a bit of good news. #soo #snowphotos... See MoreSee Less
SAULT STE. MARIE AREA UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association >> Video is from 12/16/25 Sorry I’m late on this put thought it was still worth sharing to show how things looked before this little warm up. Here’s Pete’s report to go along with it- “I took took New Dave out for his final training run down trail 8 to Brimley. We have been struggling with some engine computer wiring issues causing stalls. Some repair attempts were made, and this was an unscheduled test run as well. Bryan and his assistant Logan followed along to assist in case of another breakdown. Additionally, we wanted to take down the large leaning tree that’s been impeding the trail. Everything went well and the groomer made the trip with no issues. Dave finished up his training and will be headed out on his own soon. The tree came down without any hiccups. Even though it was warm out, the trail laid out smooth and flat. It was a great success and we are glad to have accomplished so much in one evening.” Thanks all! #soo #snowphotos... See MoreSee Less

SAULT STE. MARIE AREA UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association >> 12/16/25 Good evening everyone! Trail 49 update, between the Soo and Kinross. Lane groomed from Kinross to 12 mile yesterday morning. He reports that he brought up some water between devils hill and 12 mile, but he was able to knock down a lot of the rough stuff and said it is getting better every trip through. He rode it after he groomed and it is passable, nothing too deep. He advises that you need to pick your lines to go around wet spots, which is typical in the early season. There were several sled tracks after he groomed👍🏼 Last night, Dennis groomed 49 from the Soo south to around 11 1/2 mile. There’s a ditch around there that he couldn’t get through so he back out and headed back. He said that there are still some wet spots to watch for, but it’s passable via sled. Temps are still below freezing at night, even with a few days above freezing, and the thaw/freeze cycle should actually help that trail. We need some more snow to push into the wet spots and we’ll really be able to get this trail in good shape. Thank you Lane and Dennis! ❄️❄️❄️ Remember, we are on Groomer Tracker!
