FREDERIC – GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic , Michigan Snowmobiling >> 01/13
It’s a misty rainy tuesday morning in downtown Frederic at 35 degrees. It made it up to 40 yesterday. The temp is supposed to drop starting tommorow with light snow predicted in the next few days. I am going to go out with my plow and push slush around at the storage lot. I did see some sleds out and about yesterday but none on my side of the road.I wish I had better news. Thanks for checking in. Pete

FREDERIC - GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic , Michigan Snowmobiling >> That's a Wrap on the 25-26 Sled Season - Well here we are up to March 31, 2026 and the end of the season with more snow that we have seen in a long , long time. Still alot to melt off here in Frederic, Piles were huge and so very rock hard its still gonna take them a while to melt down. The good thing about all the snow was that it spread the riders out all thru the state which made for a much safer season. Even with that there were still 12 deaths with only 4 in the lower and the rest in the u.p. In looking at the sledview camera north of Gayord the trail is still covered with snow... #gaylord#snowphotos... See MoreSee Less

🎉❄️ TRAIL 480 IS OFFICIALLY REOPENED! ❄️🎉
The bridge is in, the trail is groomed, and Trail 480 is back in action in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula! 💨 This is a HUGE win for riders and a key connection for our local trail system.
A big THANK YOU goes out to the Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association for their tireless work grooming and advocating for our trails, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources for their coordination and support, and the contractor who delivered a solid bridge that will serve riders for years to come. 👏👏👏
This project took teamwork, patience, and dedication—and it shows. We’re proud to see riders safely crossing once again and enjoying everything the U.P. has to offer.
If you’re riding through the area, fuel up, ride safe, and enjoy the fresh trail!

Good morning everyone! 23” in the Soo currently with snow showers. Temps are a little higher than we’d like, just above freezing, but that changes drastically tomorrow night.
Here’s what I know-
❄️ Trail 8- Soo to Raco- good to excellent
❄️ ‼️ City Trails – part of 49, 449, 497, and the I500 trail- good with with the exception of 449 right by the 497 intersection with 449, and 497 is very, very wet. It’s a dead end trail to the high school, but worth mentioning for our locals especially!
❄️Trail 49- Soo to Kinross- fair to good. All water holes are packed and panned. Do not get off of the trail as you will encounter water in spots if you do.
❄️ Trail 49 south of M80 and the 494 loop- excellent
❄️ Trail 472 west of Kinross to Tilson Rd- good
🔔 Trail 472 to 480 to the Raco gate- please see the pinned post. We HAVE groomed it, and we’re awaiting the DNR inspection of the new bridge to be able to officially give the green light🙌🏼
❄️ 480 from the Spile Dam turnaround to the Raco Powerline ( trail 8 ) – excellent
❄️ Raco Powerline- excellent
❄️ Trail 889 The Mission Hill Loop- excellent
Remember, we are on Groomer Tracker!
Ride safe everyone!

Good evening everyone! We had on and off snow showers in the Soo today and picked up another couple of inches.
Turbo and Diane were out in the Pisten Bully today on the 889 loop, the powerlines, and 480 north of M28. Here’s what Turbo had to say-
“Howdy everyone! Turbo here. Wanted to give a little trail update. I woke up early and told Mrs. Turbo I would like to take her out for a romantic breakfast. Little did she know we had to grab our Pisten Bully and a Dubie first. We groomed trail 480, the power lines, and the 889 loop, then down to Bay Mills where we had a very good breakfast before heading back on the trail. This was our first time grooming the loop this year, and I just have to say the crew has been doing a great job while we weren’t here. I would have to say it is better than anytime last year already. So, if you’re thinking about coming up, make some plans, load the sleds, call off work and get up here!! That’s all I have today. Turbo”

SAULT STE. MARIE AREA UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association >> 3/30/26 Hello everyone! It’s 41 degrees here in the Soo today with warm sunshine. The melt is definitely on. It’s heard to believe that we were still grooming as of yesterday! What a season! The Tucker that sits in Kinross was brought back to the Soo barn yesterday, and the Pisten Bully just came in to the Soo barn this morning from Raco. It’s so bittersweet as we have SO MUCH snow still on the trails, but our operators deserve some well earned rest, and all good things must come to an end. Tonight, we’re holding our groomer appreciation dinner and I’ll get some pics and maybe some Q & A with some of our operators for you about this season. Once I have all of the March paperwork completed, I’ll also share some stats from the season. We’ll be getting gates closed after the 31st, and some are still really buried in snow, so please know where you are riding after 3/31 and stay off of private property. Trails on state and federal lands do not close but will not be groomed. Be safe if you still choose to ride and be alert to rapidly changing conditions such as water holes opening up. It’s going to be one heck of a mud season this year! As of today, we still have 30” of snow on the ground, with a trail base of over 2’ in many areas🤯 Thank you to all who visited our area, rode our trail system, supported our local businesses, donated to or joined our club, who follow us on Groomer Tracker and here on Facebook, the DNR for finding additional grooming dollars to get us through March, our incredible volunteers and members, and most importantly, the AMAZING landowners who allow us to have the wonderful trail system that we have! Best season ever!!! ❄️❄️❄️ PS- there’s rumor of a big snowstorm late this week😅😂 #soo #soo0330#snowphotos... See MoreSee Less

SAULT STE. MARIE AREA UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association >> 3/28/26 Good evening!! It was Turbo and Diane’s last run for the season on 889. And they made it a double due to someone thinking they could drive a truck on the trail😔 Here’s what they had to say- “This morning was a little bittersweet, as it was our last groom of the season on trails 480, 8 and 889. I really appreciate what Groomer Mark left for me this morning. The trails were nice and flat and smooth. They need very little to touch them up. Honestly, I believe these trails today are better than they were mid-season. It's really a shame that the season ends April 1st. It snowed the whole time. We got about 4" of new snow. This was our first groom this whole season, where I left a perfect ribbon from start to finish. Not one sled track the whole way. So about 6pm tonight we were driving down Plantation road because Mrs. Turbo saw an eagles nest along the courtesy trail to Bay Mills this morning, and we saw a rescue vehicle sitting on the road just past the beginning of trail 889. So we stopped and waited for the rubber tracked skid loader pulling out a pick up truck. I asked him what they were doing driving on the trail and he said they were going to the Mission Hill overlook. I asked him how bad he tore up the trail getting stuck, and he said it was pretty bad. He tried to turn around and ended up getting stuck. I believe he could have driven the whole trail and been fine. The trails are so hard packed, we couldn't hardly see any tire tracks. So Mrs. Turbo and I went home and got our grooming clothes on and went back out to go fix it. Thankfully, it wasn't as bad as he told us it was. As beautiful as the trails were this morning, we must have had a lot of traffic today, because it was pretty tore up. So, it was actually a good thing we went out. We saw many sleds. All in all, it was a pretty good day. We hope everyone had a great day of riding. Enjoy, these last few days of the season. Remember, ride right, ride safe and ride sober. Turbo” Thank you so much for your extra efforts today, and all season!! Beautiful job!!❄️❄️❄️ #soo #soo0328b#snowphotos... See MoreSee Less
