SAULT STE. MARIE UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association – 01/24
Well, we’ve gotta take the bad with the good. We just ran 49 down to 12 mile road and it’s overall in fair condition. There are sections that are nice and smooth and others where the Tag Alders are poking up through the trail as you can see in a couple of these pics. The only cure for that is MORE SNOW! It has been snowing all day but not adding up to more than a couple of inches of fluff. Here’s the scoop on the rest of the trails… 8 out to Brimley is in good shape
8 between Brimley and Raco was done overnight and is in much better shape than it was after heavy traffic yesterday City trails are all in good shape, watch for branches in spots 472 out of Kinross west to 480 out to Raco (the Spile Dam) was done today. Groomer Mike reports that there are a lot of moguls in that area not due to snow but due to dirt and we need more snow to fill them in. He also ran 49 out of Kinross north past Gaines Highway and turned around before the beaver pond. He reports that section to also have moguls due to dirt and lack of snow.
The section of trail 49 south of 12 mile and north of where he turned around (known as the beaver pond) is the only section of trail that we cannot groom at this time due to very deep water under the ice. Please use caution here!
Kinross 494 behind the airport to 49 south toward Pickford will be done tomorrow.
Raco/ Bay Mills / Brimley loop ( 8 and 889) is in good shape Ride safe and keep the snow dances going!❄️❄️❄️
