Sault Ste. Marie Trail Report – 03/25

Well our groomers are done for another year. Trail 8 was groomed for the last time Saturday west of Brimley. It is flat, snow covered, and perfect. But 45 degree temps called for all week and rain called for Tuesday and only a few sleds around. Only had one 10 foot bare spot on a hill where sun shone on it all day. Lots of snow in woods yet but I think a lot of bare spots by weekend. Trails officially close April 1 but our leases on private land don’t end then so gates will be open on our trails until rideable snow is gone.

Groomer Report

Grooming is done for the season

Trail #8 going west are the only trails left that are rideable. The sun is melting a little bit of snow every day and areas in the open will develop bare spots or corners rain and 45 degrees Tuesday

We have a new plowed parking area at the beginning of trail #8 under the International Bridge, which now has an all season porta John. Make sure you lock your vehicles and trailers.

If you are staying in the Sault please look at our list of supporters on our web page and give them your business. Please do that in all towns you visit. The grooming entities are all made up of volunteers who want you to support those who support us!!!!!!

Remember trail base is the amount of snow between your track and the ground below not the amount of fluff piled up in the woods. 10 inches of snow compresses to less then a inch on the trail.

Sault Ste. Marie to Brimley, Trail #8 –

Base 0- 2 inches -Trail is in poor to fair Condition.

Brimley to Raco, Trail #8 –

Base 1 – 4 inches -Trail is in fair Condition.

When going across the bridge in Brimley make sure you go with your the flow of traffic! Blowing and drifting occurs when you first leave Brimley.

Raco to Naomikong Trail #8 [where Paradise meets us], Trail #8 –

Base 0- 4 inches – Trail is in fair Condition.

Sault Ste. Marie City Trail, Trails #497, #449, parts of #8 & #49 –

Base 0 – 2 inches – Trail is in poor condition

We now have a marked trail going to Chippewa Motors. It starts once you come out of the woods east of M-129 off #449. It comes into their parking lot from behind if you need parts or service.

City curfew is from 1 am – 6 am. Remember most City streets are open to traffic 20 mph, stop at all intersections, and ride on the right hand side of street not on side walks. Watch for closed streets that are posted, mainly around the hospital, university, and state trunk lines.

Sault Ste. Marie to Kinross, Trail #49 –

Base 0 – 2 inches – Trail is in poor Condition.

Make sure you follow reroute once you cross bridge going south at 7 Mile road .

When the trail is running along roads make sure you go with the flow of traffic on the right side of the road.

Kinross loop & south to Pickford, Parts of Trail #49, #472, and #494 –

Base 0 – 2 inches – Trail in poor Condition. Watch for trucks on trail.

Kinross to Raco & Rudyard, Parts of trail #472 & #480 –

Lake Gogebic Area Groomers Report 3/19
Sled Season 2018 is on the books –but what a great season it has been! Our weather forecast over the next few days is anything but positive for our rapidly deteriorating trails, and groomers have packed it up for the season. Many trails are in not rideable condition, but if you are out there riding – please use caution as wet spots will re-develop with melting snow.
Delivering some of the best riding in the Country is not something that happens easily or overnight. It a long-term group effort fueled by a team of truly dedicated, hard-working and knowledgeable (stubborn) people. It’s a team of people who you can count on to GSD when it really matters and it’s those people who make the U.P. a unique and special place to visit and live. Thank you to everyone who played a part in making this season a success and a big show of gratitude to Mother Nature for her fabulous appearance! No matter how big or small your role may have been – your role is important – and it all makes a difference!
On behalf of our Gogebic Area Groomers, all our local area businesses, volunteers, members and supporters (Moonshine Riders) – we also want to thank everyone who came to ride our Gogebic Area trails this season! We know that you have a choice of where to ride – we are glad that you choose Lake Gogebic – and we look forward to seeing you again next year!

Groomer Report
Snowmobiling Season 2018 seems to be over – technically it’s not over until March 31 but there is no snow in the forecast and we are down to gravel in many places!
We had a good season even with the lower than normal snowfall amount and this doesn’t mean we couldn’t have a freak storm but it doesn’t look good. If you do come up to ride there are many wet areas so use caution and please remember there are restrictions for no off trail riding (forest roads are allowed) in the Ottawa National Forest
We have a small but truly dedicated and hard-working team that spent countless hours to provide the best trails they could. Drivers and Trail Boss THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
And to all of you, thank you for your support and encouragement, through the season is truly appreciated!
