NEWBERRY AREA UPDATE via TASA – 2/23

February 23, 2023 9:30 am

We groomed to holland lake and to Rexton Tuesday night but did not groom last night as we had no new snow yesterday. We plan to groom all trails tonight. It is currently 12 degrees and snowing, we did receive about 3 inches of snow on Tuesday and have significant snow in todays forecast. Remember when you are on the side of a road always ride on the right side!

Trail 9: did not groom last night but did groomed on Tuesday night. Logging operations are finished and county roads 415 and 422 are now being groomed but snow is still a bit thin. good.

Trail 498: Not Groomed last night but was groomed Tuesday. Good.

Trail 45: Not groomed last night. Fair. there is about 5 miles of dirt from skyline to camp 7 rd. There is logging on the trail shortly after you jump on Trail 45 just past the Logging museum off of M-123. There is also be logging about 3 miles North of Skyline Road off to the right. Please use extreme caution in these areas! Both portions are being plowed and could be bumpy or rutted. Very Good in spots

Trial 9/2: Not groomed last night but groomed to Rexton on Tuesday night. Conditions being reported as fair.

Thank you to all the team at the groomers barn who puts in countless hours to keep the system groomed and maintenance on the machines!

Your grooming team from the TASA Barn!!

NEWBERRY AREA UPDATE via Pine Stump >> 1-9-26
Made the 30s yesterday. Some rain in the night but it’s still winter!
Already getting the calls if we lost all our snow. Had someone say he decided to go somewhere else this weekend. I told him why are you calling me asking about the snow then if you’re not even coming here.
I love talking to people but I don’t have time to answer 100 phone calls a day asking how the trails are here and how they are in the soo munising etc . I try to post on here with photos and videos so people can see what it’s like.
Plenty of snow with snow in the forecast. I think a lot of people will be up this weekend. If nobody comes I’ll go out and enjoy all this snow myself i guess
Hope to see everyone this weekend #newberry #snowphotos

GRAND MARAIS AREA UPDATE via Grand Marais Sno-Trails Assoc. >> What It Means to Be a Groomer for the Grand Marais Sno-Trails Association
Being a groomer is more than a job—it’s a commitment to community, safety, and the love of snowmobiling.
Our groomers are compensated at $2 per mile groomed, but the reality behind that number tells a much bigger story. Depending on the trail, a single grooming route can take 8 to 10 hours to complete. That time can vary due to necessary stops—clearing debris, addressing unexpected issues, carefully exiting the groomer when needed, and slowing or stopping entirely as snowmobilers pass by.
Grooming equipment moves at a steady 7 to 11 miles per hour, requiring patience, focus, and long hours in often challenging conditions.
While this is technically a paid position, our groomers do this work for something far more meaningful: their love of the sport and their dedication to our community. They balance grooming with full-time jobs, families, and personal commitments—choosing to sacrifice their time so the Crazy 8’s trails remain safe, rideable, and enjoyable for all of us.
Today, let’s take a moment to truly thank our groomers for the countless unseen hours they put in behind the scenes. ❄️ #grandmarais #newberry #snowphotosWhat It Means to Be a Groomer for the Grand Marais Sno-Trails Association

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> Today, the morning fog and freezing drizzle will give way to a quiet but warmer than normal day. Fog returns tonight, though the weather remains quiet until a system passes south of the UP Thursday afternoon, bringing a wintry mix of rain, freezing rain, and snow to the UP, though the heaviest rain will fall along the Lake Michigan shores. Once this round of precip wraps up Friday afternoon, attention then turns to the potential for weekend snowfall, though plenty of scenarios are still possible, so those with weekend plans sensitive to winter weather should monitor the forecast. #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #marquette #munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsareaToday, the morning fog and freezing drizzle will give way to a quiet but warmer than normal day. PARADISE AREA UPDATE via Paradise Area Night Riders www.paradiseareanightriders.org >> 1/7/26
30 degrees again this morning with a light freezing fog/drizzle going on. The weather guessers are saying it will turn around to back to normal by Saturday or Sunday....lets hope they are right!!! Here`s whats been going on with the trails.....
We worked ALL DAY yesterday on the Falls trail #45 from town to the lower falls. Groomer Keith made some progress but it is still impassable at this time. We are gonna have to wait for the temps to cool down before we can get back in there. Same as the swamp south of town.
Today, Groomer Mike H. is gonna run the Point trails #452 & #453. They are in good shape. Groomer Keith is gonna hit the Pine Stump trail #8. This trail is in good shape also except for where the loggers have it plowed down. I am hittin trail #8 south. This trail is also in good shape except for a couple of small water holes and I`ll work on them. This will probably do it until the temps cool off.
Keep checking back.....I`ll keep you informed
LET `ER SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Spent most of the day yesterday picking branches off the trail. That one would've been a bit larger than I could have handled. Thanks for the great work so far this year!
