Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 12/19

GOGEBIC RANGE TRAIL AUTHORITY Trails 2&8 are being groomed- conditions are poor to fair. Expect rocks and wet areas. Trails 11N, 11S and 160 are not being groomed at this time. We need more snow and colder weather to firm up the wet spots.

GOGEBIC AREA GROOMERS Lake Gogebic groomers are out getting the trails in shape to firm up…wet spots and reporting early riding conditions-mostly poor but some fair.

U.P.THUNDER RIDERS OF WATERSMEET will not go out until we get more snow.

Remeber it is early season riding with wet spots, so use caution.

You can take a look at web cams throughout the area to check out the conditions for yourself. Find links on our website at westernup.info.

Gaylord Area Trail Report – Ray’s Retreat Country Inn – 12/17

The rain did turn to snow last night, and we woke up to a white slippery world. The roads were very slick this morning as I headed into town. We got up about 2 inches of snow, and it was freezing rain as I drove in. Not fun. Especially when I know its not enough snow to do snowmobiling any good. Different people tried to cheer me up with ‘well it’s a good start’.

hnmmmm Not really. Just walking thru the crusty white the white becomes all broke up and you’ve got bare ground again. That, along with the extended forecast showing temps up in the high 30’s and 40’s in the week. Not too much to look forward to.

I keep hoping that just like in all the Christmas movies… you know like White Christmas, or any feel good Christmas show where a kid in California is wishing for a white Christmas… magically on Christmas Eve it begins to snow and cover the world in the beautiful white.

Its just not looking good for that outcome.

There it is… enough to tantalize everyone with dreams of snowmobiling.
