Michigan Snowmobile Trail Report

ONTONAGON AREA UPDATE via Scott's Superior Inn and Cabins >> Put on 130 miles with Art today! What a ride. 🙌
With the surgery and the new baby, this ended up being my first and last ride of the season with my buddy—and it definitely didn’t disappoint.
We ran from Ontonagon to Sidnaw via Trail 12 over to 174, and honestly… 95% of the ride was excellent. 👌 The kind of riding you hope for this time of year.
Sure, there were a few slushy stretches and some bare spots starting to open up by the end of the day, but get into the woods and there’s still a solid base. If you’re itching to squeeze in a few more miles this season, heading south and east out of Ontonagon is still very much worth it.
And never forget…
“It’s not about the miles. It’s about the smiles.” 😄 #ontonagon #westernup #snowphotos

ONTONAGON AREA UPDATE via North Country Snowmobile Club UP >> Trail Report 3/22:
We went out and inspected some of our system and found Ma Nature had done some real damage.
The trails are rideable and some are still in good condition. Unfortunately to safely get groomers to those areas we have to cross swamps, open water, running water and failing snow bridges.
We are going to cease grooming operations and barring an unexpected change in the forecast, will not restart.
We had a hard season and really need more help, if you have a desire to groom, please p.m. us.
Thank you for coming up, thank you for all the kind words, see ya next year and ride the 906!!! #ontonagon #westernupTrail Report 3/22:

LAKE GOGEBIC AREA UPDATE via Gogebic Area Grooming >> Bergland Area Groomer's update, 3-21-26.
Last Groom was Wednesday 3-18-26 and conditions were pretty decent at that time.
Unfortunately this warmup has likely taken it's toll.
It's that time of year where we start putting everything away and regrouping for next season.
Was this season perfect? Absolutely not! We've had some personnel changes and some mechanical issues that plagued us the last few weeks that really put us behind.
Believe it or not we did have machine's or a machine running 7 day's a week when the weather allowed.
Maybe not covering the area's you would like but what we thought was best.
Our goal is to give everyone the best experience possible when possible.
We would like to thank all our Groomer operators, all the local businesses and especially the diehard snowmobiler's that come to Western U.P. every season! Thank you from Gogebic Area Grooming ❄️❄️❄️ #lakegogebic #westernup #snowphotos

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> A pair of systems will bring a wintry mix of precipitation to the U.P. today into tonight. A clipper will spread a mix of rain, snow, and freezing rain across the area this morning, changing to all rain from west to east as temperatures climb above freezing in the afternoon, reaching as high as the mid 50s in the west. A cold front then drops across the U.P. and brings another round of mixed precip tonight, changing to all snow towards Sunday morning. Generally expect minimal snow amounts across most of the U.P., but some spots in the Keweenaw and the east could pick up 1-3” through Sunday morning. A glaze of ice will also be possible in a few spots this morning and again tonight. #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #marquette #munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsareaA pair of systems will bring a wintry mix of precipitation to the U.P. today into tonight. ONTONAGON AREA UPDATE via North Country Snowmobile Club UP >> Trail Report 3/20:
We finished our ride yesterday on Trail 137 to Trail 13 to 101 to 12 back to White Pine. The snow had turned to mashed potatoes but trails for the most part were smooth and holding up well.
There are bare spots, standing water, running water, deteriorating snow bridges, and any roadside trail is bare, pretty typical late season riding.
Friday should still be a good day for riding.
Due to high temps we have halted all grooming operations.
Will go back out Sunday to assess the damage Ma Nature is causing.
Ride the 906. #ontonagon #westernup #snowphotosTrail Report 3/20:

Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 03/19

Gogebic Range Trail Authority – Snowmobile & ORV Club Trail Report

• Trail Condition: Poor
• Last Groomed: March 13th, 2020
• Base Snowfall: 24″
• Reported On: March 18th, 2020 @ 9:30am
Groomer Report
Wednesday 3/18/2020 9:00 am CST Overall Story: Poor
Trails are hazardous with slush ponds and pools as well as “rotting snow bridges” as the Hurley White Thunder Riders put it so well. We have not groomed in 10 days. Brushing activities have been on-going in wet areas to use the snow pack while we can. Riding is limited, most clubs except Keweenaw Snow Trails has quit grooming. Last weekend a neighboring club was swallowed by a hidden slush lake under the snow. There is fresh snow being called for and awfully enough rain for 12 hours before it. We will be out riding evaluating trails to see what can be groomed, if anything.
WARNINGS AND NOTICES: We are begging riders to ride off trail legally as there are 1-million acres of public land east of Wakefield to off trail ride on – please only ride legal areas! The Ottawa National Forest is 990,000 acres and much of it open to cross-country riding (no trail/road) if there is 6″ or more of snow. Several restricted areas, contact the forest for further information. CLICK THIS LINK FOR MAPS, scroll down to motor vehicle use maps.
Trail 2 from Hurley to Ramsay US-2 Crossing:
Overall rating: Fair
Last groomed 3/7/2020. Please do not ride on side walks near Holiday and try to keep noise down in town.
Trail 2 from Ramsay Crossing to Wakefield:
Overall rating: Fair to Poor
Last groomed 3/7/2020. There is a water hazard near Blackjack. Trail is icy.

Trail 2 from Wakefield to Marenisco:
Overall Rating: Fair
Last groomed 3/6/2020. Water Hazard west of 2/8 intersection.
Trail 8 from Wakefield to Tula Crossing:
Overall Rating: Fair **SEE NOTE
Last Groomed 3/6/2020. The ditch trail on Gogebic Area Grooming’s side has had the water holes open up, it is impassable. We do not advise riding this trail unless you are a highly experienced technical rider with a long track.

Trail 160 from Walmart to Montreal River (WI):
Overall Rating: Fair
Last Groomed 3/6/2020. There is logging about 1/2 way north on the trail, YIELD TO LOGGERS AND GIVE THEM RESPECT – IT’S THEIR LAND! STAY ON THE TRAIL!!!!!! This is our most scenic trail and is a treat to ride! Stay on the trail in the farm fields. Over 25 landowners are involved to make this trail a reality, please respect them and ride responsibly. There are several scenic vistas on the trail:
Bald Mountain “NORTH” lookout viewing Madeline Island/ mouth of the Chequamegon Bay of Lake Superior
Bald Mountain “SOUTH” lookout viewing Gogebic Range (Powderhorn, Copper Peak)
Montreal River Gorge look out
Superior Falls Waterfall Complex.
11S (Wakefield, MI to Winchester, WI):
Overall Rating: Good
Last Groomed 3/6/2020. Increased logging traffic is in the area for only 1/4 mile, PLEASE YIELD TO ANY AND ALL LOGGING TRAFFIC. There is a short section of dual use the landowner (Keweenaw Land) has graciously approved us to use along with them. It is private land and we are guests, please act like it.

11N (Wakefield, MI to South boundary Rd/White Pine): Closed due to off trail riding. Seeking local community support with ideas on how to reopen it. 200 yards of private property closed this 25 mile trail.
.
