ONTONAGON AREA UPDATE via Scott's Superior Inn and Cabins >> ❄️ Snowmobile Trail Update ❄️
We picked up 8–10 inches of fresh snow this weekend here in Ontonagon and it was just what the trails needed! This snowfall helped freshen things up and improve overall riding conditions across the area.
It’s still early season riding, so expect some thinner spots, wet areas and changing conditions, but the good news is all trails are open and rideable — and there are even some really good stretches out there already.
A big thank-you to the groomers and volunteers who have been putting in the time to make this happen. Ride smart, ride within your limits, and enjoy the fresh snow! 🛷❄️ #ontonagon #westernup #snowphotos❄️ Snowmobile Trail Update ❄️

ONTONAGON AREA UPDATE via North Country Snowmobile Club UP >> Good afternoon, Sledheads:
We got out to groom last night covering Trail 13 - Trail 101 - Trail 137 and Trail 12 from 101 to White Pine. We still have wet spots due to the recent warm-up last week, and have not yet been able to build ramps at the elevated driveways along Hwy 64 so ride with caution.
Yesterday, Mac & Rick took down the "widowmaker" over Trail 1 in the woods just North of the junction of Trail 1 and Trail 102. The high winds keep blowing the fresh fluffy snow off Trail 1 along Lake Superior, so we are still not grooming that section. Mac will be out this afternoon grooming the road section of Trail 1 north of the ski hill to Lake of the Clouds. #ontonagon #westernup #snowphotosGood afternoon, Sledheads:

SIDNAW - WESTERN U.P. UPDATE via Sno Valley Riders Snowmobile Club >> Groomer Report:
Trail Condition: Fair
Last Groomed: December 19th, 2025
All of our trials are open and groomed.
We would like the give a big THANK YOU to the DNR for helping us on trail 3 from Bruce Crossing to Rockland, they were insturmental in getting this trail open!
It is still early season riding in many areas, watch out for wet spots and some thin snow areas.
Overall I am calling our trails FAIR, there are some areas that are excellent and some that are not great but all are rideable.
Please ride on the RIGHT side of the trail and STOP at the stop signs!
Stay on the trail, if you don’t we could lose trail permissions on private property.
Groomers have the right of way on the trails, pull over and stop to let them safely pass!
We now have Groomer Tracker installed in our groomers.
We groom every day that the weather conditions and equipment allow. Unforeseen circumstances may prevent us from going out, like a major blizzard and being snowed in at our homes or equipment breakdowns. #westernup

Michigan Snowmobile Trail Report

WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> Here is our last call for ongoing system snow and lake effect snow from now through Sunday evening at 6 pm EST, December 20th & 21st, 2025.
Uncertainty exists primarily in our trace-1" category which extends from Frankfort and Alpena south to I-96/I-69. The clipper moving through today may produce a quick squall of rain & snow with minimal accumulation some time beyond 1 pm EST, but models haven't determined if this band will solidify or not. If it does, the chance for a rain/snow mix exists in areas highlighted in the pink dashed box. This rain/snow mix would only be today. Any snow on Sunday will be lake effect off of Lake Superior, hence why our highest totals of 4-8" are located east of Munising over to Paradise. Not too impactful of a system in terms of Michigander standards, but do take it slow if you encounter any snow squalls and/or visibly slick roads. #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #marquette #munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsarea #gaylord #cadillac #benzie #traversecity #petoskeyHere is our last call for ongoing system snow and lake effect snow from now through Sunday evening at 6 pm EST, December 20th & 21st, 2025.

A snow squall. Maybe that’s what we had going on in Wakefield today. It was nuts!

Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 03/19

Gogebic Range Trail Authority – Snowmobile & ORV Club Trail Report

• Trail Condition: Poor
• Last Groomed: March 13th, 2020
• Base Snowfall: 24″
• Reported On: March 18th, 2020 @ 9:30am
Groomer Report
Wednesday 3/18/2020 9:00 am CST Overall Story: Poor
Trails are hazardous with slush ponds and pools as well as “rotting snow bridges” as the Hurley White Thunder Riders put it so well. We have not groomed in 10 days. Brushing activities have been on-going in wet areas to use the snow pack while we can. Riding is limited, most clubs except Keweenaw Snow Trails has quit grooming. Last weekend a neighboring club was swallowed by a hidden slush lake under the snow. There is fresh snow being called for and awfully enough rain for 12 hours before it. We will be out riding evaluating trails to see what can be groomed, if anything.
WARNINGS AND NOTICES: We are begging riders to ride off trail legally as there are 1-million acres of public land east of Wakefield to off trail ride on – please only ride legal areas! The Ottawa National Forest is 990,000 acres and much of it open to cross-country riding (no trail/road) if there is 6″ or more of snow. Several restricted areas, contact the forest for further information. CLICK THIS LINK FOR MAPS, scroll down to motor vehicle use maps.
Trail 2 from Hurley to Ramsay US-2 Crossing:
Overall rating: Fair
Last groomed 3/7/2020. Please do not ride on side walks near Holiday and try to keep noise down in town.
Trail 2 from Ramsay Crossing to Wakefield:
Overall rating: Fair to Poor
Last groomed 3/7/2020. There is a water hazard near Blackjack. Trail is icy.

Trail 2 from Wakefield to Marenisco:
Overall Rating: Fair
Last groomed 3/6/2020. Water Hazard west of 2/8 intersection.
Trail 8 from Wakefield to Tula Crossing:
Overall Rating: Fair **SEE NOTE
Last Groomed 3/6/2020. The ditch trail on Gogebic Area Grooming’s side has had the water holes open up, it is impassable. We do not advise riding this trail unless you are a highly experienced technical rider with a long track.

Trail 160 from Walmart to Montreal River (WI):
Overall Rating: Fair
Last Groomed 3/6/2020. There is logging about 1/2 way north on the trail, YIELD TO LOGGERS AND GIVE THEM RESPECT – IT’S THEIR LAND! STAY ON THE TRAIL!!!!!! This is our most scenic trail and is a treat to ride! Stay on the trail in the farm fields. Over 25 landowners are involved to make this trail a reality, please respect them and ride responsibly. There are several scenic vistas on the trail:
Bald Mountain “NORTH” lookout viewing Madeline Island/ mouth of the Chequamegon Bay of Lake Superior
Bald Mountain “SOUTH” lookout viewing Gogebic Range (Powderhorn, Copper Peak)
Montreal River Gorge look out
Superior Falls Waterfall Complex.
11S (Wakefield, MI to Winchester, WI):
Overall Rating: Good
Last Groomed 3/6/2020. Increased logging traffic is in the area for only 1/4 mile, PLEASE YIELD TO ANY AND ALL LOGGING TRAFFIC. There is a short section of dual use the landowner (Keweenaw Land) has graciously approved us to use along with them. It is private land and we are guests, please act like it.

11N (Wakefield, MI to South boundary Rd/White Pine): Closed due to off trail riding. Seeking local community support with ideas on how to reopen it. 200 yards of private property closed this 25 mile trail.
