Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 01/11

We are on the down side for our warm weather. Today and tomorrow our temps will be in the 30’s with AM showers for today. The good news is Sunday our temps will be colder with snow showers. All next week our temps will be normal with snow in the forecast from Wednesday through Sunday….lets hope we get enough where the groomers can get out and get the trails in great shape!!

The Gogebic Range Trail Authority
reports: Groomers have been taken off the trails for a few days until we get some snow. Expect bare spots and icy spots on trail 2,8 and 160. Expect poor conditions. Trail 160 closer to the lake the snow will be marginal. Trails 11s and 11n are not groomed we need more snow before groomers will go out to groom these trails. It is still early season riding we need more snow to get the trails in great shape. Be Patient!!!

The Lake Gogebic groomers reports: We have not had much snow to get our trails in great shape. We rolled our trails earlier but with the lack of snow we are unable to go out. Trails still have a covering of snow but no base to speak of right now. Expect icy corners and bare spots. Remember it is early season riding conditions. You will find more snow in the wooded areas. Groomers are ready and waiting to go out.

The Watersmeet groomers have not gone out yet, they need more snow. There is very little to no base. They are biting at the bit to go out and groom.

All areas need more snow….keep in mind groomers can be out day or night so watch out for them and please pull over or slow down and wait for the operator to signal you by.

Please be careful on corners as you know several Michigan Trail signs have been discontinued. These signs are posted on our trail map. PLEASE BE SAFE!!!!
