Grayling Trail Report – Fay’s Motel – 01/21

Greetings Sledders,

The crazy train finally slowed down enough for me to safely jump off and find the time to set down and write a report. Part of the delay is attributed to waiting for information from my esteemed contact within the National Guard with regard to a possible trail closure due to a military training event currently underway at Camp Grayling. I am happy to report that the trail to Lovells which is the one affected by training at MPRC 30 will not be shutdown this week. This is a 10 day exercise and I will keep you updated as info flows to me.

We had many positive comments about the condition of our trails and about all of the efforts of the groomer drivers over the course of last weekend. Thanks to all of you that passed on kudos and I will be sure to let the guys know at our weekly scheduling meeting on Wed. I would also like to pass on a thanks to the understanding sledders that I talked to regarding the now infamous water holes on trail #47 behind the fairgrounds. The holes have gotten worse and are to a point that after breaking a drag axle we shut down grooming on that 1.5 mile stretch until a fix is put into place. This is something that we’ve been working on with the DNR over the last few days and are currently waiting for approval to proceed. I will keep you updated on that deal as well.

The trails are currently in good condition overall with the usual suspects showing signs of wear and tear, those being trail #7 South of 72 and the segment from M-93 North to Frederic. Those segments are the I-75 of trails around here and they get a ton of traffic and some portions may be in fair shape.

We have a mixed bag of weather coming with a couple of inches of snow late Wednesday and into Thursday and temps that will be above freezing. We can always use the replenishing snows but could do without the temps. You can always give us a call as we get closer to the weekend and we will let you know if the temps are having an impact,

Ride Often and Please Be Safe,
Keith, Sandy and The Kids
