Munising Area Trail Report – 02/16

MUNISING AREA UPDATE via Alger County SORVA – 2/16

TRAIL REPORT – Sunday, 02-16-2020
GREAT TRAIL RIDING!
Overall trail conditions are very good, especially considering the lack of significant new snow over the last 6 weeks. Another dusting fresh snow has helped with grooming conditions last night. In general we have a great flat base with trails a bit sugary in areas. Dog Sled Races are this weekend so watch for signs like shown in the gallery, slow down in those areas and give right-of-way to the teams racing. We also have the Munising Ice Fest this weekend which will have increased traffic and vehicles out by Miners Castle. Keep the cold weather snow dancing going, Enjoy the Trails and Ride Safe! MUNISING AREA UPDATE via TNT Trenary Northern Trails – 2/14

Minus 3 degrees, some new snow, some drifted snow, a great pre grooming meal courtesy of the Chatham Pub, and a sweet person stopped us to say thank you and leave some snacks, all in all a great night, leading to excellent conditions for riders on Friday. We stopped to measure the trails base on one of the bridges and it looks to be around 30 inches.
As if it wasn’t enough to say thank you, and leave a bag of snacks, the group that stopped us never rode on the fresh groom as they headed off into the horizon letting the trail set up for others to enjoy the next day…

Frederic / Gaylord Area Trail Report – Sledheads of Frederic – 02/16

Still waiting on the new snow that has been predicted for the past few days…..it was snowing a little bit last night but no accumulation, still the trails are surprisingly in good shape. Saturday was a busy day all around Frederic with lots of sleds everywhere, trailer counts this morning were 37 at the Ramada and 18 at the Days Inn so that was about the same, there were alot of sleds already fired up in those parking lots when I went thru there at 8:30 this morning and people lined up here for trail permits when I got here at 9.

Permits are almost gone so no one can get permits till tuesday now……saturday night of course I had to hit the Frederic Inn for prime rib and Sis had saved me a nice one. I dont go in there till late so I call ahead to reserve it…..It was darn good as usual and Allen joined me for dinner and the table next to us were regular readers and the guy worked at the DTW tower…….Allen lived near there and they talked airplanes a bit……Sunny so far this morning so it looks like no snow today again….still amazing how riders say that the trails are holding up well. Pretty strange considering the amount of snow that we do have….must be all the rain that froze up and gave us a good base. Thats about it for this morning so thanks for checking in. Pete
