Keweenaw Peninsula Trail Report – 03/15

KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Keweenaw Trail Reports – 3/15

Trails were absolutely near perfect the past 3 days…. many saying the best they were all season! This possible storm rolling in later this week could really be awesome….. I’m voting for scenario #2! (see below)

All of your snow dances worked last week so let’s rally again! ❄️💃

I try to answer all questions, whether in a post or a message as often as I can (as captured by my husband in this photo). However, when I’m out riding daily I don’t always have a cell signal, so I will try to put out a detailed post here to cover as much current information as possible. If you have specific questions, please don’t hesitate to ask though!

❇️Trails are being groomed daily and are in very good condition! Many riders sharing thoughts like this by Brad Wery …

“Legitimately the best trails I’ve been on in the 2,000 plus miles this year. This is NOT late season riding…..it’s mid season North if the bridge!”

❇️Road crossings, parking lots and sections of trails that run along the side of a road can be thin to bare

❇️It is possible to ride out of or pass through Houghton/Hancock however there is bare pavement in areas and thin spots getting out of town

❇️If your lodging is in Houghton/Hancock and you choose not to ride directly out of town you can trailer to and stage out of The Trailside Lodge in Calumet which is located right on Trail 17 or Vansville Bar in Phoenix which is located right on Trail 3 where it intersects with trail 124. It would always be goid to call ahead to check availability. If you are looking to ride South you can stage out of Krupps Resort or the parking area across from the VFW in South Range

❇️A few businesses have started to reduce their hours of operation so you might want to check with any of your planned destinations

❄️There is SN❄️W in the forecast this week also!

🚫Trail 3 from Dollar Bay to Lake Linden is closed (Notification was just given that repair to this trail has been approved!! 👏 Great, long awaited news! Thanks to all who wrote letters etc in support of this!

🚫Trail 133 from Lac La Belle to Gay is closed due to logging. You can still get to Lac La Belle via Trail 132 and Gay via Trail(s) 124/122

🚫The Freda Loop south of the bridge is closed

😢There are only 17 days left until trails close after March 31st

📷Please share any photos or comments you have on riding Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula with us as I LOVE to share others reviews on conditions, in addition to my own, so you get the most accurate information possible!

👏We all owe the Keweenaw Snowmobile Club, board members, businesses, trail boss, groomer operators, volunteers etc a huge thank you for making riding the Keweenaw so awesome!

Sault Ste. Marie Trail Report – 03/15

SAULT STE. MARIE UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association – 3/15

Ran trail 49 from the Soo to Kinross and back with groomer Jay today. There are a few spots where dirt is showing . Also a few water spots in corners. Overall, it is still in really good shape! Snow started getting a little sugary on our way back. A little snow is in the forecast for tomorrow but we’re definitely seeing signs of spring.

Update 3/15— The groomer was down in Raco which does the Mission Hill trail (889) and Raco to Brimley for 3 days. As of late last night, Mission Hill trail 889 was done and the Raco to Brimley loop will be done this morning. Other trails are very hard and icy. Trail 49 from the Soo to Kinross is showing water in spots where bridges cross streams or ponds. We will only groom when temps go below freezing so that means some trails may only be done a couple times a week. There is logging being done in the Kinross area, where no grooming can be done(trail 49 south of M80) toward Pickford. Trails that have some road riding are bare and ditches are showing open water. Season is starting to wind down and temps are rising up. We are doing our best with these conditions. As always, ride safe and watch for changing conditions.
