WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> Light snowfall across the area eventually dwindles away to pure lake effect over the northwest wind snow belts of the eastern U.P. tonight. Attention then turns to a quick hitting system Sunday evening/night. Season Update – January 3, 2026
The snowmobile season in the western Upper Peninsula is off to an incredible start! Trail conditions are excellent across the Ontonagon and Porcupine Mountains area. Here’s what you need to know:
• Total Groomers in Operation: All available groomers are running, covering approximately 1,000 miles of trails.
• Trail Conditions: Trails are in good to very good condition, with packed snow and well-defined corridors for safe riding.
• Snowfall Overview: Our seasonal snowfall totals and estimated snow on the ground for area towns are highlighted in the attached map, giving riders a clear picture of the snow base throughout the region.
Whether you’re looking for scenic rides through the Porcupine Mountains or cruising along the Ontonagon corridors, trail conditions are optimal for both new and experienced snowmobilers. Make sure to ride safely, respect posted trail rules, and enjoy the stunning UP winter landscapes!

All of the NCSC trail system was groomed in the last 24 hours!!
Conditions range from poor around Silver City along Lake Superior in The Porkies to excellent at higher elevations in The Porkies and Trapp Hills.
There is still a deep indentation between South Boundary Road and The Porkies Ski Hill.
The water holes along Trail #12 between Ontonagon and Greenland are filled. Mother Nature can change up quick so ride that area with caution.
Thank you to Steve at Team Hamilton's North Coast Adventures, Groomer Wyatt and Tractor Mac for getting it done!

Wyatt pushed trees/brush and filled water holes on Trail #12 between Trail #137 and Greenland.
For early season it came out pretty good.
Please use caution on this trail.
We sure could use some more snow within a couple miles of the big lake!
