WEATHER UPDATE via Midwest Weather >> I'm going up north to the U.P of Michigan on Friday to chase a potentially significant lake effect snow event from late Saturday night through Tuesday. Snowfall accumulations could be 1-2', if not higher, as high-res model guidance comes in when we get closer. Another lake-effect snow event is increasingly likely behind an arctic front next Wednesday night through Friday, which we will need to keep an eye on. #miweather #keweenaw#westernup#marquette#munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsarea#gaylord#cadillac#benzie#traversecity#petoskeyI'm going up north to the U.P of Michigan on Friday to chase a potentially significant lake effect snow event from late Saturday night through Tuesday. 2/17/25- from Turbo yesterday- LOL
“Sorry it’s been a couple of days since my last trail report. We have been very busy keeping these trails in excellent shape. Not sure if everyone knows, but we are down to two groomers (1 in Brimley and 1 in Kinross) on one of the busiest weekends of the year. So, my good friend Lane down in Kinross has been grooming up to the Soo doing a 6 hour run, and we have been grooming from Raco to the Soo on a 6 hour run also. We want to make sure all of the trails stay in excellent shape. So it has been a long couple of days. We had our trail stop on Saturday and we met many nice people. The excitement was so great that we had numerous people wanting to join our club. Of course I got writers cramp from all of the autographs I gave out, thanks to all my followers. Nothing new to report on the trail conditions. They are all still in great shape. I’ll post a few pictures of the trail stop and the trails. I’ll do better this week with trail reports. Hope everyone had a great weekend.
Stay safe and ride right. Turbo (and Mrs. Turbo too)”
Thank you again to all who came out to our trail stop!
2/17/25 Please use caution if you encounter wildlife on the trail. This beauty has been hanging around town, close to where trail 8 and trail 49 intersect in the Soo. Please, DO NOT approach her, or scare her. Moose are very large animals, and can be unpredictable when they are scared. Today, she was right in the middle of the road as I was driving home. She was headed straight for my Jeep. I backed up, she ran into a driveway, then made it safely back into the woods.
If you encounter a moose on the trail, back up if it is safe to do so, and go the other way until they move along. Please take it slow in this area. She’s made this her home base and we expect her to be around the rest of snowmobile season. One of our awesome members saw her earlier as well, and sent us the other photo.

SAULT STE. MARIE AREA UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association >> 12/24/25 Merry Christmas Eve! A curious deer checked out our snow gauge overnight. A bit of a warm up kept groomers parked yesterday, but cold has returned this morning, and there’s a decent amount of snow in the forecast in the coming days. Things were super flat before the warm up yesterday, so once again we have an excellent base. We will keep you posted! Enjoy time with your families and friends 🎄❄️ #soo #snowphotos... SAULT STE. MARIE AREA UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association >> 12/21/25 Groomer Jay and I just finished the city trails. Aside from the car on trail 8 near Ashmun Bay, things look really good. We saw a little water on the trail to Kewadin as pictured, but that was honestly the worst part of the whole run. It was snowing hard for the last hour of our run. I was pleasantly surprised to see how well things held up after the warm up last week. We keep saying it, but we truly are very pleased with where things are this early seaon. Let’s hope it continues! ❄️❄️❄️ #soo #snowphotos... See MoreSee Less
SAULT STE. MARIE AREA UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association >> 12/21/25 Happy Winter Solstice!! Beautiful shots from Brimley Bill this morning on his run of parts of 480 north of M28, the Raco powerline portion of trail 8, and the 889 loop! Fresh snow over the solid base that the thaw last week helped to create = some awesome trails! Thank you Bill! ❄️❄️❄️ #soo #snowphotos... See MoreSee Less
