Sault Ste. Marie Area Trail Report – 03/20

SAULT STE. MARIE AREA UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association >> 03/20

3/20/25
Took a quick ride from the Soo to Brimley on 8. There are some low hanging branches, and spots where water is seeping up, but absolutely gorgeous out! Hope you get to enjoy it before it’s gone! ❄️❄️❄️

SAULT STE. MARIE AREA UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association >> 03/20

3/20/25
Happy first day of Spring! Or as we call it, 3rd winter!
In the Soo, we received around 4” of HEAVY wet snow overnight, with light snow still falling.

I have not yet heard how much fell in the surrounding areas, so please check in if you’re in the surrounding areas with what you’re seeing. It’s super tacky snow as you can see on my snow gauge.

I have not heard when/if groomers will be rolling yet. I know that trail 49 down to Kinross is very wet, and that our Kinross machine is back at the barn for the season. The good news is, everything was super flat before this new snow, so they probably don’t even need to be groomed at this point. Trail 8, 480 north of M28, and 889 are will be the best trails in ourr area for this time of the season.

Watch for wet spots! We got some significant rain before the snow. Also watch for downed trees as winds are supposed to pick up later, and all of the trees are pretty weighed down with snow right now.

I have heard that the roads are bad, so use caution if you’re traveling. Better yet, take your sled!😉

The short term forecast looks promising too!

Be safe everyone! ❄❄❄

Michigan Snowmobile Trail Report

WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> Here is our last call for ongoing system snow and lake effect snow from now through Sunday evening at 6 pm EST, December 20th & 21st, 2025.
Uncertainty exists primarily in our trace-1" category which extends from Frankfort and Alpena south to I-96/I-69. The clipper moving through today may produce a quick squall of rain & snow with minimal accumulation some time beyond 1 pm EST, but models haven't determined if this band will solidify or not. If it does, the chance for a rain/snow mix exists in areas highlighted in the pink dashed box. This rain/snow mix would only be today. Any snow on Sunday will be lake effect off of Lake Superior, hence why our highest totals of 4-8" are located east of Munising over to Paradise. Not too impactful of a system in terms of Michigander standards, but do take it slow if you encounter any snow squalls and/or visibly slick roads. #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #marquette #munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsarea #gaylord #cadillac #benzie #traversecity #petoskeyHere is our last call for ongoing system snow and lake effect snow from now through Sunday evening at 6 pm EST, December 20th & 21st, 2025.

SAULT STE. MARIE AREA UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association >> 12/20/25
Good morning all!
Not any major changes here as of right now. We got maybe an inch of snow overnight in the Soo, with a bit in the forecast today and tomorrow.
Our Raco crew has been out on 8 from Brimley west, and the 889 loop is being done now, as they have a bit more snow in that area. I haven’t spoken with the groomer bosses in the Soo or Kinross yet, but I would imagine we’ll still be on hold in those areas until we get a bit more snow.
No doubt, we now have a very solid base over the majority of our trail system.
We’ll keep you posted! ❄️❄️❄️ #soo

SAULT STE. MARIE AREA UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association >> 12/19/25
The switch has flipped! We went from 42 and rain last night to 18 and snow flurries currently. Wild!
Word is that the roads are absolutely horrible, and area schools have been cancelled.
No doubt, trails will be solid ice until the new snow starts to pile up. As soon as I have any idea what the trails look like, I’ll be sure to share, but wanted to at least share a bit of good news. #soo #snowphotos

Paradise Area Trail Report – 03/20

PARADISE AREA UPDATE via Paradise Area Night Riders www.paradiseareanightriders.org >> 03/20

3/20/25
Well, I`m back. Thanks to Joann for giving a couple reports on the trails while I was gone. I lost my Mom so I had a good excuse:(. Sooo….here we go for a good trail run down.

28 degrees this morning and the sun is trying to poke out. I got a solid 4″ of wet heavy snow here at my place last night. I heard out by Pine Stump they got a bit more. We still have a good 2 feet on the ground. Its supposed to be sunny and around mid 30’s today which will thaw out all the roads again and then cool off for the weekend. If you are thinking about one last ride this weekend I say GO FOR IT!!!!

Trails #8 & 9 to Pine Stump are still in good shape.

Trails #452 & 453 around the Point are also in good shape.

Trail #45 to the Falls is also in good shape but you may find some water here an there.

Trail #8 south is still good except for the swamp of course. You may find some water opening up on the power line and in the Federal Forest tho.

All trails are hard and flat but this snow we got last night will help a lot with cooling and the warmer temps will soften them up. We don`t plan on gettin the groomers out unless the traffic gets heavy…but I doubt that….the trails will hold up fine cause they were so hard and icey.

Come on U.P. for one last ride!!!!! The season is closing up fast.

Groomer Chris

PARADISE AREA UPDATE via Town Hall Snowmobile Club Paradise MI >> Paradise - Grand Marais-Pine Stump- lots of boondocking and two tracks.. Trails are brutally “hard” after the refreeze. Some sections got a few inches of fresh snow today which made for good but most were very “chattery” with engine temps constantly elevating. We stayed mostly off the trails where possible as the two tracks were excellent! Squishing any water into the in the low spots into the snow, cool if you can go around and let them freeze up smooth, but now major damage at all and its been snowing since I left town. #newberry #snowphotos
