Keweenaw Peninsula Trail Report – 02/07

It’s a great Monday on the Keweenaw – a little chilly but fresh snow for everyone today. Students are hard at work on the snow statues (check out the Virtual Keweenaw page of keweenaw.info to see live updates on the webcams!) Trail, all kinds, are in terrific shape. Going to be a bit chilly this week – temps in the low teens. What are you waiting for? COME ON UP!

The snowmobile trails from TwinLakes to CopperHarbor are open, and groomers are out working on them. Trails are reported to be in good to very good condition except for the High Rock trail which is in fair condition due to low snow.

Remember to watch out for the groomers when you’re out on the trails…….they have the right of way!!
There is logging on a short portion of Trail 133 between Gay and Lac La Belle.

The Keweenaw Convention & Visitors Bureau asks that you stay on the trails, STAY OFF THE ICE, respect private property, do not drink and drive, and above all else, please, drive safely. The signs on the snowmobile trails are there for the riders’ safety. Please, DO NOT remove or destroy these signs.

IN ALL AREAS:
Please stop at stop signs.. we’re starting to get some complaints people are not stopping at the stop signs so let’s make sure we stop before someone gets hurt…

ABOUT THE ICE:
It’s time for our usual caution. There is no such thing as "safe ice" due to underwater currents. If you plan to go out, be sure you talk to locals where you intend to ride for more information about the ice depth and other factors…be aware you will be riding at your own risk.

Our 800# is still down so when calling you will not get a recording. Check back for updates and check out our webcams around the area at westernup.info ….

PHOTO REQUEST from us. If you have any neat snomo pictures you’re willing to share,we’re looking for a cover shot for next years map and other marketing uses. Can’t pay but will give a photo credit on inside of map. Send in jpg-300dpi-to bigsnow@westernup.info. Be aware anything you send will become the property of the WUPCVB so this request is more for amateur photographers…in other words, don’t send anything you may want to sell in the future. We appreciate any help on this.
