Trail and Snow Report…..Not Looking Good Right Now! Wednesday
by Heart Lake Resort on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at 10:12am
Yesterday was extremely warm – almost forty on my digital thermometer. The current temp today is 33.1 degrees. A lot of bare spots are showing on the trails and unfortunately it’s forecasted to be unseasonable warm for the rest of the week. I would rate the riding in some places to be fair but poor to non- existent where the trails are in the open. Still snow in the back country but that will be soft I’m sure depending on the temp when you’re exploring those areas. If you ever need more information weather you’re staying with us or not or even a place to stay, please feel free to give us a call. We’re now taking bookings for spring golf groups and summer family fun if you’d like to give us a try. Please feel free to give us a call. Thanks. John @ Heart Lake Resort Cottages 989-732-5081

Daytime temps for the weekend remain mild with temps in the 30’s. Overnight temps will be in the 20’s so overnight grooming is being planned weather permitting. Best riding is early in the day as trails will soften up by mid-afternoon with the milder weather. Expect bare roads and parking lots due to the mild weather.
GOGEBIC RANGE TRAIL AUTHORITY Reports trails overall are in fair to good condition. Expect some bare spots on trail 2 from Hurley to Wakefield. Grooming is planned at night weather
permitting. 11N has a water spot on it in which you can get around. Signs are posted so please use caution.
Also on trails 11N and 160 closer to the lake the snow is marginal. LOGGING IS PLANNED OFF SOUTH BOUNDARY ROAD SO WATCH FOR SIGNS AND PLOWED AREAS.This section is poor… 11S is in fair to good condition, logging is planned for the remaining of the season closer to the Wisconsin border signs are posted, use caution. Please remember the logging trucks have the right of way so when and if you see them please pull over….
LAKE GOGEBIC AREA GROOMERS report groomers went out last night grooming and will groom at night weather permitting. Trails are in fair to good condition. Due expect some poor areas due to heavy traffic. Watch corners, they may be icy and obey stop signs PLEASE!
U.P.THUNDER RIDERS OF WATERSMEET report all trails are being groomed at night weather permitting. Overall trails are in fair to good condition. Expect some poor conditions due to heave traffic. Again watch for icy corners.
Keep in mind the groomers will be out day and night, so watch for them, and PLEASE pull over or at least slow down and wait for the operator to signal you by whenever you see them. Please use caution on corners in all areas they may be icy…
ABOUT THE ICE:
It’s time for our usual caution. There is no such thing as "safe ice" due to underwater currents. If you choose to go out, be sure you talk to locals where you intend to ride for specific information about the ice depth and other factors…be aware you will be riding at your own risk.
You can take a look at web cams throughout the area to check out the conditions for yourself. Find links on our website at westernup.info.
Here are a few gas station updates. The gas station in Paulding is closed so plan ahead for filling up. On the up side the gas station in Marenisco is now open.
