Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 01/19

With blue sky and lots of sunshine what a great day to get out and enjoy a great day. Our temps will be in the teens for the next few days with lows in the single digits.

The GRTA now known as the Snow Shakers are reporting Trail 2 from Ironwood to Bessemer is groomed and is in very good condition, from Bessemer to Wakefield it is in fair condition and needs more snow before they can groom this section. Trail 2 from Wakefield to Marenisco is groomed and is in good condition.

Trail 8 from Wakefield to Tula is groomed and is in good condition.

And Trail 160 was groomed on the 16th and is in fair condition but please watch out for wet spots. This trail has some poor spots on it so use caution.

Trail 11N and 11S are closed this winter. Just a reminder Trail 11 from Trail 102 to 11N is not being groomed due to the closed of Trail 11 N.

The Lake Gogebic Groomers are reporting with the cold weather and snow we received this past weekend help with our trails. With the busy weekend our groomers out dragging the trails and getting them back in shape. Trail 8 near the county line groomers are still working on filling in the wet spot, along with the wet spot on Trail on south. We advise against riding on the highway to avoid the wet spot on trail 8 west as many sleds have be doing. This poses as a safety hazard to sleds and cars along with the possibility of getting ticketed by the law enforcement.

The Watersmeet Groomers report that their groomers will be running daily and the whole system is in very good condition.
Trail 2 west of Watersmeet is very good.
Trail 2 east of Watersmeet to Trail 107 is very good.
Trail 3 north of Trail 2 to Bond Falls and Trail 8 is very good.
Trail 3 south of Watersmeet to Land O’Lakes WI is very good
Trail 13 south of Trail 2 going towards Cisco Chain of Lakes, WI is in very good condition.

Gaylord Area Trail Report – Ray’s Retreat Country Inn – 01/19

We had snow most of the day yesterday. Many times it was coming down so hard visibility was zero. Which caused lots of problems on the roads and even riding on the trail. Definitely time to slow down.

We picked up at least another 6 – 8 inches of fresh white flakes by last night.

The riding was rough yesterday. Snowing and blowing meant the trails were not so smooth even though the groomer was out.

Today the groomer should be able to get those trails in good shape and its looking like the rest of the week is going to be quiet.

This is the time to enjoy riding … during the week!
