January 16th, 2017

Bad news – our yearly January warm up is here – big time. Temps are expected to rise (and stay) into the 30’s for highs with a couple of days possibly hitting 40! Daytime grooming will not be possible during these conditions; it would do more harm than good. If you see a groomer out during the day it will probably only be doing some brushing. Even the nighttime temps don’t look to be all that cold, but we will continue night hour grooming as much as possible. These conditions are in the forecast until late in the month so if it’s possible to change your vacation plans to the end of January or into February it would be a good idea. We still have lots of snow and hopefully during the warmer temps it will stay mostly cloudy protecting what we do have on the trails. Also, watch for wet areas to possibly reopen and stay off of streams. Sorry I don’t have better news for you all – I’ll keep you posted throughout the week. Maybe those forecasters will get it wrong.

As previously posted, please stay on the trails in Bergland. You are not allowed to ride the highway through town and may be ticked. You can only access the gas station by following the trail through the park and crossing directly across from the gas station from Antonio’s Restaurant. If riding the roads through Merriweather (down to the Hoop ‘N Holler Tavern or to the lake) please remember to ride at the posted speed limit of 25 mph and stay to the side and as always be aware that this is a residential area and watch for traffic.

*HEADS UP: As previously reported there was to be a water rescue training just off the Bergland dock scheduled for this Saturday. This has been rescheduled for Saturday the 21st. Please keep this in mind and steer clear of this event for safety’s sake.

. *If you’d like additional information about our area please contact The Lake Gogebic Area Chamber of Commerce at 888.GOGEBIC or www.lakegogebicarea.com.
You can also email us at info@lakegogebicarea.com. Hope we see you soon – for those of you already up here have a safe ride!

*Gogebic Area Grooming really needs your support at this time more than ever. You can be a part of our grooming efforts with a sponsorship of $25 for single, $30 for family and $75 for businesses. However we’d greatly appreciate a donation of any amount. These can be sent to “Gogebic Area Grooming” at “115 Hoop ‘N Holler Rd / Merriweather, MI 49947” or you can find sponsorship pads at most businesses around the lake with our map boxes, where you can also deposit donations. All map money is intended to benefit the grooming efforts in our area. If you mail your sponsorship or donation to the above address be sure to include contact info, as well.

January 12 – Hi all! Happy Thursday! We are plugging away thru the week! What a rollercoaster this week! Lots of snow, then lots of rain made a mess of it, then last night we got several more inches of snow, so short and sweet – the groomers are out and doing their part and it’s not looking too bad! We need more snow but it’s ok! They say we are in for some warm temps next week so lets hope not too warm! By the way if you do see a groomer, get outta their way and give them a thumbs up! They’re out there doing what they can for you! I’m hearing from some riders that it’s not too bad out there! So – till next time – Seeya on the trails, Carol
