Frederic / Gaylord Area Trail Report – Sledheads of Frederic – 02/03

Still nice and cold at 17 degrees but no new snow overnight.

We had about a new inch or 2 total for yesterday during the day. Trails still looking darn good and traffic has been steady since I got here at 9.

Trailer counts at the Ramada this morning were 14 and 1 at the days Inn.

The other day when I was talking about Fort Wayne the guys had left and right after that a new batch of Fort Wayners came in.

Then it was turn for the A states, had two guys in from Arizona and as they were leaving the Alabama boys rolled in thru the door. That is the Alabama boys first trip up and they are missing their head Sledhead Mr James Suttles who had a stroke this fall. Thoughts and prayers to Mr S down in Alabama. He loved riding and stopping in here.

Now this morning had 3 guys in here from Eaton rapids who bought 4 quarts of Klotz for an oil burning ZRT that one of them is riding and an Indiana group with the Kanzo & Bolin boys just left a car out back and are heading off for the u.p. to ride. Be sure to put clear tape over your trail permits. I have had many riders that have had their trail permits not stick to their sleds. Tape should help. Thanks for checking in. Overall Conditions: Good to Very Good

We’ve seen about 2″ of new snow since Monday. Forecast shows decent snow this week so we expect conditions to gradually improve throughout the week, getting us set up nicely for the weekend. The trails overall are icy! We’re working with a 1-5″ base which means the corners will be swept & icy. Due to the rain a week ago a few water holes reared their ugly faces again. Please ride cautiously!

Lake Gogebic Area Groomers Report

Trail Condition: Good
Last Groomed: February 2, 2017
Base: 5″
Past 24hr: 2″
Reported On: February 2, 2017 @ 11:02pm

Trails are much improved with the return to colder temps and we’ve been receiving a few inches of new snow just about every day over the last week, with a call for additional snowfall over the weekend. For next week predictions are calling for a big storm to hit us on Tuesday! Yeah!!

Groomers are out on all trails with good reports of wet areas frozen back up with only a few minor spots to watch for. Please remember that trail 100 (at the south end of the lake) is closed until logging is finished in this area. Riding the roadways through this area is prohibited. Hopefully with the colder temps they’ll be able to get back in now and remove the logs that have been cut. We’ll keep you posted as soon as there are any changes.

Trail 3 North – Good with a few wet spots

Trail #13 south – fair/good there are 2 wet areas starting to freeze with caution signs south of US Hwy 2 crossing one about 100 ft long
