Frederic / Gaylord Area Trail Report – Sledheads of Frederic – 02/04

Nice, cold and crisp out this morning at 12 degrees.

I got here shortly after 8 and my park n ride already has several trucks back there and they were getting ready to head out.

Going to be a busy day out as motel trailer counts were 8 at Motel 72 by Tinkers Junction, 8 at the Days Inn and 56 at the Ramada in Grayling. Once again the weather guesser has lied as this is the third day in a row with no new snow when we were supposed to have snow for 7 days straight. Trail crossing looked good and I snapped this picture early this morning of the Grayling Groomer with the sunrise in the back ground as he was out and about.

There were a lot of riders all day Friday. Reports to the bridge were thin at Cheboygan and spotty thru there to Mackinaw and downtown Mackinaw really thing but they still made it to bridge. We really do need a good shot of snow. Pictures below all from yesterday and this morning. Thanks for checking in. Pete — http://frederic-mi.com/nice-cold-and-crisp/

Ironwood Trail Report – Gogebic Range Trail Authority – 02/03

Overall Conditions: Good to very good!

We’ve seen about 2′ of new snow since Wednesday 2/1. All of our water hazards have frozen back up and our stellar group of VOLUNTEER (unpaid!) groomer operators have brought the trails right back to pre-thaw conditions.

We need your membership – Join today via credit card!

Trail 2 from Hurley to Ramsay Crossing:

Overall rating: Very Good

Groomed 2/3. This trail is groomed everyday and is in great condition.

Trail 2 from Ramsay Crossing to Wakefield:

Overall rating: Good Condition

Groomed 2/2. Please stay on the marked trails! Our operators have gotten the water hazard froze up and hills covered with snow again greatly reducing the icy hill-climb hazard. It is a tight & new trail, please ride safely.

Trail 2 from Wakefield to Marenisco:

Overall Rating: Very good to Excellent

Groomed 2/1. Still some thin spots where you may hear your skegs catching ground, but for the most part this trail is in excellent shape! This trail is a mix of rail bed and a freshly dozed logging road with many turns & twists. Excellent ride.

Trail 8 from Bingo’s to Tula Crossing:

Overall Rating: Very Good

Groomed 2/3. This trail sees the most traffic (fastest way to Keweenaw/Bergland). This trail is an unplowed logging road and is a ‘super-highway’. Please stay on the trail.

Trail 160 from Walmart to Montreal River (WI):

Overall Rating: Scheduled bridge completion is 2/15, this is an active construction site please stay out! We need immediate help brushing and signing this trail! We cannot groom it without DNR signing/brushing approval so it is a critical task to get this completed! We need people during the week and the weekend! Please contact us today (info@gogebicrangeta.org or facebook us!) so we can include you on the planning conversation (email).

Trail 11N (South Boundary Rd) / 11S (Winchester, WI):

Overall Rating: CLOSED for the season. Seeking volunteers to help open the trails!

The club is actively seeking help to get the trail evaluated and prioritized for opening 11S next summer. One of the areas most favorite trails was lost due to logging operations and an inability to reroute. Then, the task of getting the trail back open was hindered by beaver flooding issues and a lack of labor. We need volunteers to step up and help get this gorgeous trail open next season!
