Grand Marais Trail Report – 01/18

Today’s Trail Report: Part 2. Just heard from the last of the groomer drivers who went out at 3 a.m., sorry for the delay.

All trails have now been groomed (8 to 443, all of 443, 8 to 888, and 88 to M77). All are reported to be in great to awesome condition and groomed up great. Groomers are going out again at 4 p.m. today with the second shift going out after they get back. Happy riding!!

I know everyone is in a panic about the ‘warm up’ we’re supposed to be getting so here’s what we know.

Yesterday Marquette got up to 41 but we never got above 33 all day. Got down into the low to mid 20s overnight. Both of our groomers went out at 4 p.m. yesterday and they report that Trails 8 and 89 are in great shape.

Still waiting to hear from the other 2 drivers who took over at 3 a.m. Not seeing any rain in our local forecast.

Will post about the other trails as soon as our drivers get back in.

Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 01/18

Lake Gogebic Webcam

Lake Gogebic Webcam

If our temps aren’t below zero they are 30 or above. We just can’t seem to get a break. Our temps for this week are not looking good. Temps from Wednesday through Saturday are going to be in the 40’s with a chance of rain on Friday. Just when things were shaping up nice. Hang in there our temps will get back to normal next weekend.

The Gogebic Range Trail Authority reports:

Overall Conditions: Since Monday with our warmer weather our trails have held up pretty good (surprisingly). Roads are now bare, please follow the trail signs and stay on the trails. We expect a steady deterioration of the trails as we head through the weekend. Grooming will be put on hold until weather permitting. We expect by the weekend the trails will be in marginal to poor condition throughout the system. Hang in there our temps will be back to normal the middle of next week so we hope to get things back in shape. We will keep you posted.

Trails 11N,11s, and trial 160 are closed. Hopefully, the southern half of 160 will reopen the middle part January

Lake Gogebic Area Groomer Report

With our warmer temps our groomers will only run at night weather permitting. We still have lots of snow so with this warmer weather if it stays cloudy our snow should hold up. Sorry I don’t have better news but we will keep you posted.

PLEASE DO NOT RIDE THE HWY. IN BERGLAND FROM JW’S RESTAURANT TO THE GAS STATION!!! YOU WILL BE TICKETED. YOU MUST TAKE THE TRAIL AND CROSS AT ANTONIO’S RESTAURANT TO ACCESS THE GAS STATION. THANK YOU.

*If you’d like additional information about our area please contact The Lake Gogebic Area Chamber of Commerce at 888.GOGEBIC or www.lakegogebicarea.com. You can also email us at info@lakegogebicarea.com. Hope we see you soon – for those of you already up here have a safe ride!

U.P. Thunder Riders of Watersmeet Groomers Report:

Trails are in good condition and holding up well but we do have some warm temperatures in the forecast. If we are not under 30 degrees we will be suspending grooming. This will be made on a daily basis.

Trails 3 N is good.
Trail 3 S to WI is good.
Trail 2 is good but we do have some rocks mixed in with the snow as you head west out of Watersmeet.
Trail 13 S is good.

Please stay on trails, riding on unmarked trails can result is the clubs losing easement for the trail. So Please say on trails…..
