Lake Gogebic Trail Report – 01/26

January 26, 2017

It’s finally getting colder; we’ve had a little bit of snow with more in the forecast over the next few days. The forecast is calling for about 1-3 inches tonight, a possible additional 3” on Friday with 2 to 4” on Saturday. Temps are expected to be dropping more as we head into the weekend, as well. The groomers are good to go and have started heading out where possible. One report back to us so far is on Trail 102 where we had a wet hold previously at the north end there now appears to be water running down the trail. Our driver says you can ride around it without getting wet but you need to watch for this problem. Trail 8 west is looking very wet – early season conditions. Please do not try to ride in the ditch along this stretch as you will end up in even more water. Best to try to avoid this trail for right now. Groomers will be heading out on all of our trails to access the damage from our warm up and to groom wherever they can. Just keep in mind that there will be wet areas reopened up on almost all trails so keep speeds down and watch for changing conditions.

Streams, rivers and swampy areas are not safe at this time, please avoid.

As previously posted, please stay on the trails in Bergland. You are not allowed to ride the highway through town and may be ticketed. You can only access the gas station by following the trail through the park and crossing directly across from the gas station from Antonio’s Restaurant. If riding the roads through Merriweather (down to the Hoop ‘N Holler Tavern or to the lake) please remember to ride at the posted speed limit of 25 mph and stay to the side and as always be aware that this is a residential area and watch for traffic.
