Frederic / Gaylord Area Trail Report – Sledheads of Frederic – 12/20

No new snow, the temps have cooled down and firmed things up. I made a big loop towards Kalkaska this morning and north of Frederic, every trail crossing I saw and trail I looked at I rate at poor. We just plain need snow. Hopefully santa will help us out and get us some snow by Christmas. The weather man says we are supposed to get some snow so that is good. Yesterday it got close to 40 so now there is grass and dirt showing in spots.. All we can do is wait and do some snow chanting. MO MO NAH CHEE NAH screamed outside at the top of your lungs helps a lot. The 4 million mark came and went on sunday well I was gone. Byron Brinley was first one in at 4,004,235 followed by Dave Klemish who came in at 4,007,773. So I am waiting to hear back from Byron and get him set up on his goodies. I got in a whole new batch of Sledheads shirts yesterday so I am well stocked up in case we ever do get snow. The new WTF Welcome to Frederic is one shirt and the All Trails Lead to Frederic has the trail map on the back. Also 2 different sledheads with Small Time Town, Big Time Fun and also The snow may melt away but the memories will last Forever……Pictures below and think Snow. Thanks for checking in. Pete

Michigan Snowmobile Trail Report

WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> Here is our last call for ongoing system snow and lake effect snow from now through Sunday evening at 6 pm EST, December 20th & 21st, 2025.
Uncertainty exists primarily in our trace-1" category which extends from Frankfort and Alpena south to I-96/I-69. The clipper moving through today may produce a quick squall of rain & snow with minimal accumulation some time beyond 1 pm EST, but models haven't determined if this band will solidify or not. If it does, the chance for a rain/snow mix exists in areas highlighted in the pink dashed box. This rain/snow mix would only be today. Any snow on Sunday will be lake effect off of Lake Superior, hence why our highest totals of 4-8" are located east of Munising over to Paradise. Not too impactful of a system in terms of Michigander standards, but do take it slow if you encounter any snow squalls and/or visibly slick roads. #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #marquette #munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsarea #gaylord #cadillac #benzie #traversecity #petoskeyHere is our last call for ongoing system snow and lake effect snow from now through Sunday evening at 6 pm EST, December 20th & 21st, 2025.

Keweenaw Peninsula Trail Report – 12/20

KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Krupps Resort – Good evening Kruppers – Not much to report today- Pretty quiet around here!
We picked up 5 more inches Friday night into Saturday morning but all’s quiet now! More snow is in the forecast and Really COLD temps! A high of just 1 above for Xmas so hopefully that changes even tho it would surely freeze up all the wet spots in short fashion! I heard some reports of some snirty trails here and there but this last weekend was a zoo up here! Parking has been an issue all up and down this area! Be sure to get a pass here and ask if your parking elsewhere so ya don’t get in trouble!
Also there has been some trespassing issues so be SURE you know where you are riding and stay off private property or this area is going to get smothered with DNR officers and they charge A LOT for infractions! Be careful out there and have a blast!

As of 12/20/17, the Keweenaw Peninsula has 17″ of snow on the ground and has received a total of 95″ of snow for the season.
Keweenaw Snowmobile Trails-Provided by the Keweenaw Snowmobile Club

Snowmobile trails from Twin Lakes to Copper Harbor are open but are in early season condition. Some groomers are out panning trails and clearing hazards. More snow is needed.

Any trail usage should be done with extreme caution as there is low snow cover, rocks, branches, wet areas and hazards that have not been identified.

The Portage lift Bridge is open for snowmobile traffic and the mat is down.

Trail 124, 132W and 133 are temporarily closed for logging.

Remember when you’re out on the trails to watch out for the groomers. They have the right away.
