Keweenaw Peninsula Trail Report – 12/20

KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Krupps Resort – Good evening Kruppers – Not much to report today- Pretty quiet around here!
We picked up 5 more inches Friday night into Saturday morning but all’s quiet now! More snow is in the forecast and Really COLD temps! A high of just 1 above for Xmas so hopefully that changes even tho it would surely freeze up all the wet spots in short fashion! I heard some reports of some snirty trails here and there but this last weekend was a zoo up here! Parking has been an issue all up and down this area! Be sure to get a pass here and ask if your parking elsewhere so ya don’t get in trouble!
Also there has been some trespassing issues so be SURE you know where you are riding and stay off private property or this area is going to get smothered with DNR officers and they charge A LOT for infractions! Be careful out there and have a blast!

As of 12/20/17, the Keweenaw Peninsula has 17″ of snow on the ground and has received a total of 95″ of snow for the season.
Keweenaw Snowmobile Trails-Provided by the Keweenaw Snowmobile Club

Snowmobile trails from Twin Lakes to Copper Harbor are open but are in early season condition. Some groomers are out panning trails and clearing hazards. More snow is needed.

Any trail usage should be done with extreme caution as there is low snow cover, rocks, branches, wet areas and hazards that have not been identified.

The Portage lift Bridge is open for snowmobile traffic and the mat is down.

Trail 124, 132W and 133 are temporarily closed for logging.

Remember when you’re out on the trails to watch out for the groomers. They have the right away.

Michigan Snowmobile Trail Report

WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> One of the most absurd snow forecasts we’ve ever made here at MSC, we’ve had to add an impromptu orange color for higher totals.
Key Notes:
•Snow begins to work into Michigan late tonight, but becomes more widespread during the early morning hours of Sunday. This snow continues through Tuesday morning for the UP, and becomes a snow/freezing rain/sleet mix for northern lower Michigan beginning Sunday afternoon/evening.
•Winds will gust between 40-60mph statewide both on Sunday and Monday.
•This will be a full on blizzard for much of the Upper Peninsula
•Expect scattered power outages across the state
•Travel will be near impossible for the UP and northern lower
Snow totals will be between one and four FEET when all is said and done on Tuesday in the UP. Further south, a mix is expected which will keep accumulations lower, and also will provide a sharp cutoff of accumulations. The difference between a foot of snow and 2” may be the width of one county.
Further south, this system will end as snow for lower Michigan on Monday & Tuesday, which is why we have a wide area within a trace to an inch, and western lower in a 1-3” zone with wording of higher totals possible. We may need to adjust totals here as new data comes clearer for Tuesday.
Stay tuned for the icing portion of this forecast. Northern lower Michigan will see significant icing which is not shown or communicated in this forecast graphic or write up. #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #marquette #munising #seney #newberry #soo #gaylord #cadillac #benzie #traversecity #petoskeyOne of the most absurd snow forecasts we’ve ever made here at MSC, we’ve had to add an impromptu orange color for higher totals.
