Sidnaw / Bruce Crossing Trail Report – 01/14

Groomer Report:

We have pretty good snow now and cold so the trails should harden up nicely. We are grooming a normal schedule now, every night that conditions allow.

The riding conditions are Fair to Very Good with the northern parts of our trails being better. The grade from Trout Creek to Bruce Crossing is quite thin in some areas.

Please DO NOT climb the “Military Hill” from the highway, US 45, to the fence, we have ongoing erosion issues there and the hill climbers are adding to the problem. YOU COULD CAUSE THIS MAJOR TRAIL TO BE CLOSED IF YOU CONTINUE!

Please ride on your own side of the trail and STOP at the stop signs!

Trail #3 North to Rockland is GOOD, better as you go north.
Trail #8 from Ewen to trail #3 North is GOOD.
Trail #3/8 East from Bruce Crossing to the trail #3 South intersection is FAIR.
Trail #3/8 West from Bruce Crossing to the trail #3 North intersection is FAIR.
Trail #3 South from the railroad grade to the CC road is GOOD, better in the woods.
Trail #8 from the trail #3 South intersection to Trout Creek is FAIR.
Trail #8 from Trout Creek to Kenton is GOOD.
Trail #8 from Kenton to Sidnaw is GOOD, better as you go east.
Trail #8/15 from Sidnaw to the trail #109 intersection is VERY GOOD, better as you go north.

Watch for the groomers, they take up most of the trail and have the right of way!
Please pull over and DIM your lights for them, they have a long night out there.
Remember, you can get off the trail, the groomer can not.

When I report “base” that is the depth of the un-groomed snow on my yard South of Sidnaw. There is no possible way to accurately report what the depth is under your snowmobile on the groomed trail, it varies widely.

Have a fun and safe trip, thank you for riding our trails and visiting our local businesses!

Frederic / Gaylord Area Trail Report – Sledheads of Frederic – 01/14

Its a sad start to sunday morning as I understand there has been a fatal sled accident at Manistee Lake. I don’t know any more than that. The only people that came into Sledheads here yesterday were in cars.

I had to go to Mancelona yesterday to show a home and decided on the way back to swing thru Starvation Lake where I did see sleds riding and there were about 10 to 15 sleds at the Hide Away. I walked into the Hide Away and who was sitting at the bar but none other than the elusive Mountain Man himself. He hasn’t been around Frederic at all because his truck is broke down but he does still have a sled…

As I left home this morning up by the trail along 93 it is 95 percent grass….we need some snow>>>> The Alabama boys came back thru yesterday afternoon as they had some sled trouble so they should be almost back home by now and they hope to come back in a few weeks. They never did make it up to Grand Marais. Pics below are from yesterday at the Hide away and I made it to Frederic Inn for prime again last night.

Thanks for checking in and PLEASE RIDE SAFELY. Pete but wait,,,11 a.m. sunday and I cant believe it but 2 sleds just rode by……I sure wouldn’t recommend that…
