Sidnaw / Bruce Crossing Trail Report – 01/17

Groomer Report:

3 more inches over the last couple days!

We are grooming a normal schedule now, every night that conditions allow.

The riding conditions are Good to Very Good with the northern parts of our trails being better. The grade from Trout Creek to Bruce Crossing is quite thin in some areas.

Please DO NOT climb the “Military Hill” from the highway, US 45, to the fence, we have ongoing erosion issues there and the hill climbers are adding to the problem. YOU COULD CAUSE THIS MAJOR TRAIL TO BE CLOSED IF YOU CONTINUE!

Please ride on your own side of the trail and STOP at the stop signs!

Trail #3 North to Rockland is GOOD, better as you go north.

Trail #8 from Ewen to trail #3 North is GOOD.

Trail #3/8 East from Bruce Crossing to the trail #3 South intersection is FAIR.

Trail #3/8 West from Bruce Crossing to the trail #3 North intersection is FAIR.

Trail #3 South from the railroad grade to the CC road is GOOD, better in the woods.

Trail #8 from the trail #3 South intersection to Trout Creek is FAIR.

Trail #8 from Trout Creek to Kenton is GOOD.

Trail #8 from Kenton to Sidnaw is GOOD, better as you go east.

Trail #8/15 from Sidnaw to the trail #109 intersection is VERY GOOD, better as you go north.

Watch for the groomers, they take up most of the trail and have the right of way!

Please pull over and DIM your lights for them, they have a long night out there.

Remember, you can get off the trail, the groomer can not.

When I report “base” that is the depth of the un-groomed snow on my yard South of Sidnaw. There is no possible way to accurately report what the depth is under your snowmobile on the groomed trail, it varies widely.

Have a fun and safe trip, thank you for riding our trails and visiting our local businesses!

Frederic / Gaylord Area Trail Report – Sledheads of Frederic – 01/17

This hurts all of us. While it looks nice and white out there conditions are still very poor around here.

I just got back into Frederic about noon after driving home from Traverse City. The trailhead parking lot out by Dingmans 12 miles west of grayling had 1 truck and trailer there and 2 sleds sitting there running. While the snow is a bit thicker out that way and up towards starvation lake its still very marginal riding and the weather forcast isn’t making us feel any better with rain and 40s this weekend.

So I guess I just have to be Debbie Downer and wait for something to happen and cheer all of us up.

Sunday night I decided it was dead here so we took off and went to Denver and there was only a few inches of snow on the ground there and the day before it had been 50. Chicago this morning looked like much more rideable snow than here too along with Kalamazoo. That is where there is rideable snow just west of kalmazoo on the Kal Haven trail. My brother has been out there riding on that quite a few times already this season and the picture below was taken yesterday near south haven. So its kind of backwards that the good snow is all very south right now. Areas north to the bridge are all pretty much in the same shape but I believe Petoskey still might have some of their 20 inch storm left.

Sorry I don’t have any better news…..The snow chants aren’t working good enough yet…couple other pics are one I took out of the plane window this morning of the Chicago skyline on our way in from kzoo and I was happy that I got to eat at National Coney Island at the Detroit airport….it doesn’t take much to amuse me. Thanks for checking in. Pete
