Paradise Area Trail Report – 01/21

January 21, 2018

Sorry for this late report. I was out until 3 am grooming last night. It is noon as I sit here and its 37 degrees and cloudy. We hit 42 here at my place yesterday. It did get below freezing last night…..27 at 3 am. So here`s the deal from yesterday…..

Groomer Loren shot me a text saying he rated the Pine Stump trail #8 as fair.

We have another new guy, Groomer Kevin, and he ran the Point Trails #452 and #453 yesterday and rated them as fair to good.

I ran the Falls trail #45 and rate it as fair to good also.

Groomer Gerald is out right now runnin the Stump trail again and Groomer Larry is out runnin the Point Trails.

We know the trails were really beat to heck yesterday so maybe I should explain how we rate them. We go by how they look AFTER we have gone through. We take into account the temps, traffic and how it looks behind us…..ie….if we got the moguls filled in good, or if there is any open water holes. You must remember the temps make a HUGE difference. The trails will not hold up for very long with the temps above freezing and heavy traffic.

The weather guessers are still calling for a storm for UP here for tomorrow. I`ve seen reports anywhere from 8-12 inches to 12-18 inches. I`m taking it with a grain of salt. They are saying another warm up is coming for next weekend…..perfect!! NOT!!!

About all I got to say today. I was gonna address our FB bashers, but you know what? I`m not gonna waste my time. The one thing I will say is this…..if you think you can do a better job, come on UP, we`ll hand you the keys.

Groomer Chris

Sidnaw / Bruce Crossing Trail Report – 01/21

Groomer Report;

Welcome to the U.P. of Michigan Scott Harper! We hope you have a great snowmobiling experience!

The last two days of warm weather have prevented us from grooming the trails but it looks like we will be able to go out tonight. We will be out tomorrow for sure with the big change in the weather and a winter storm watch in effect.

We are grooming a normal schedule now, every night that conditions allow.

Please DO NOT climb the “Military Hill” from the highway, US 45, to the fence, we have ongoing erosion issues there and the hill climbers are adding to the problem. YOU COULD CAUSE THIS MAJOR TRAIL TO BE CLOSED IF YOU CONTINUE!

Watch for the groomers, they take up most of the trail and have the right of way!
Please pull over and DIM your lights for them, they have a long night out there.
Remember, you can get off the trail, the groomer can not.

Please ride on your own side of the trail and STOP at the stop signs!

Trail #3 North to Rockland is GOOD, better as you go north.
Trail #8 from Ewen to trail #3 North is GOOD.
Trail #3/8 East from Bruce Crossing to the trail #3 South intersection is FAIR.
Trail #3/8 West from Bruce Crossing to the trail #3 North intersection is FAIR.
Trail #3 South from the railroad grade to the CC road is GOOD, better in the woods.
Trail #8 from the trail #3 South intersection to Trout Creek is FAIR.
Trail #8 from Trout Creek to Kenton is GOOD.
Trail #8 from Kenton to Sidnaw is GOOD, better as you go east.
Trail #8/15 from Sidnaw to the trail #109 intersection is VERY GOOD, better as you go north.

When I report “base” that is the depth of the un-groomed snow on my yard South of Sidnaw. There is no possible way to accurately report what the depth is under your snowmobile on the groomed trail, it varies widely.

Have a fun and safe trip, thank you for riding our trails and visiting our local businesses!
