Sault Ste. Marie Area Trail Report – 02/26

SAULT STE. MARIE AREA UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association >> 02/26

2/26/25
Good morning all! With temps cooling off, we have runs resuming. Brimley Bill sent us this report tonight.

“I groomed part of 480 and 8 from Ranget Road to Brimley tonight. The trails are really holding up, even with the warmer temperatures. There is a very solid base. The snow is very tacky, so it’s panning into a very hard and solid surface.
Turbo is also heading out late tonight to groom the 8 and 889 route while the temperatures are lower. The Raco, Mission Hill, Bay Mills, and Brimley trails will be in great shape tomorrow morning!”

Thanks Bill and all volunteers! What we have is a huge testament to their hard work all season. The season is far from over!❄️❄️❄️

SAULT STE. MARIE AREA UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association >> 12/24/25
Merry Christmas Eve! A curious deer checked out our snow gauge overnight. A bit of a warm up kept groomers parked yesterday, but cold has returned this morning, and there’s a decent amount of snow in the forecast in the coming days. Things were super flat before the warm up yesterday, so once again we have an excellent base.
We will keep you posted! Enjoy time with your families and friends 🎄❄️ #soo #snowphotos

WEATHER UPDATE via Midwest Weather >> I'm going up north to the U.P of Michigan on Friday to chase a potentially significant lake effect snow event from late Saturday night through Tuesday. Snowfall accumulations could be 1-2', if not higher, as high-res model guidance comes in when we get closer.
Another lake-effect snow event is increasingly likely behind an arctic front next Wednesday night through Friday, which we will need to keep an eye on. #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #marquette #munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsarea #gaylord #cadillac #benzie #traversecity #petoskeyI'm going up north to the U.P of Michigan on Friday to chase a potentially significant lake effect snow event from late Saturday night through Tuesday. SAULT STE. MARIE AREA UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association >> 12/21/25
Groomer Jay and I just finished the city trails. Aside from the car on trail 8 near Ashmun Bay, things look really good. We saw a little water on the trail to Kewadin as pictured, but that was honestly the worst part of the whole run. It was snowing hard for the last hour of our run.
I was pleasantly surprised to see how well things held up after the warm up last week.
We keep saying it, but we truly are very pleased with where things are this early seaon.
Let’s hope it continues! ❄️❄️❄️ #soo #snowphotos

Gaylord Area Trail Report – 02/26

Gaylord Bureau –

February 25, 2025

9:05 a.m.

As you may know, both of our groomers are currently out for repairs. Our neighboring communities have been able to lend a hand and several of our trails were groomed last week. Thank you to our grooming friends in Lewiston, Grayling and Indian River for getting us ready for last weekend! After a brief warm up and lots of visitors over the weekend, conditions may be quite rough. We’ll update you with any other grooming taking place once we are aware.

Please give a big wave to these groomers if you see them out and about! They are going above and beyond to help our their snowmobiling friends and the Gaylord community. We extend a sincere thank you to them for their efforts!

Keep in mind, our trails are in poor to fair shape and will likely get bumpier. We will keep you updated on the status of our groomers and let you know once grooming resumes. Ride safe and stay tuned for updates!

Check out this live feed to see trail #7, just north of Gaylord.

A few things to remember about our groomers and trails:

– Groomers are out there to help you have a better riding experience and always have the right of way.
– Please move off the trail when groomers are approaching and allow them to safely pass.
– If you approach a groomer from behind, kindly wait for the operator to signal you to pass.
– Grooming can take place at any time during the day or night, so stay alert.
– Always ride on the right side of the trail.
– Ride safe and ride sober.

Want to be ready? Get a free trail map delivered right to your mailbox and plan your adventure!

As always, check back with us for updates and weather reports.

Sledheads of Frederic – 02/26

It’s rock hard and 20 degrees out there this morning. I posted a video a bit ago and it was the grayling groomer heading north and like I thought they were coming to pick up the drag they left by the Swamp a few days ago. The hitch is repaired on the groomer but there is no grooming going to happen until or when we get new snow. Its amazing how fast it goes. So to me it looks like we had about 16 days of good riding with all that snow we had. Still one more month to the season so when and if we get more snow be ready to ride it. I have a full tank and am ready in case it does happen. Thanks for checking in. Pete (also time to start the snow chants again.)

WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> In the spirit of Christmas, here's today's forecast for December 23rd, 2025 that really doesn't feel much like the holiday season. Let's discuss!
Temperatures are slow-going to rise, then suddenly as we reach the afternoon hours, temperatures snap into the mid-40's for much of the state. Many locations close to the MI/OH border may surpass 50°F. Further north, mid-30's are likely. Sunshine will be noticeable out there today, as partly cloudy skies are the main icon. Winds will increase beyond noon as well, gusting between 20-30 mph for most, with some isolated spots in northeast Michigan, and along Lake Superior gusting 30-40 mph. Winds will be out of the west, and more details on the wind will be posted next. A light round of mixed precipitation is possible overnight into Wednesday for the Sault Ste. Marie region.

JORDAN VALLEY AREA UPDATE via Jordan Valley Trails Council >> Groomers ran north and south today, unfortunately neither operator had much good to report. The extended warm up from last week has taken a drastic toll on the trails. North of Elmira the trails were really thin today. The trails south of Alba are thin but flat and rideable as of now.
The rest of this week is expected to be cold but very little to no snow with high 30’s on Saturday. The end of next week is predicted to have high 30’s with some freezing rain.
Stay tuned, once we get sufficient snow our volunteers will be be back out there grooming! #jordanvalley #gaylord
