Sault Ste. Marie Trail Report – 01/23

Trails are all in good to excellent shape, except 2 water spots. You can get around both of them but they are hopefully frozen by tomorrow. One is on the Kinross to Soo trail and the second on Kinross to Raco trail! All other wet spots have frozen over with temps hovering around zero since Sunday.

Also many less signs on the trails this year, no more chevrons on every little bend in the trail.

Sault Ste. Marie to Brimley, Trail #8 –

Base 3-7 inches -Trail is in Excellent Condition. Go with the flow of traffic on the bridge in Brimley!

Brimley to Raco, Trail #8 –

Base 3-7 inches -Trail is in Excellent Condition. Make sure you go with the flow of traffic when crossing the bridge in Brimley or you will be ticketed!!!!!

Raco to Naomikong Trail #8 [where Paradise meets us], Trail #8 –

Base 4-10 inches – Trail is Exellent Condition. Lots of snow with blowing and drifting.

Sault Ste. Marie City Trail, Trails #497, #449, parts of #8 & #49 –

Base 4-6 inches – Trail is in Good to Excellent Condition.

City curfew is from 1am – 6 am. Remember most City streets are open to traffic, 20 mph, stop at all intersections, and ride the right hand side of street not on side walks. Watch for closed streets that are posted, mainly around the hospital, university, and state trunk lines.

Sault Ste. Marie to Kinross, Trail #49 –

Base 3-6 inches – Trail is in Good Condition. When the trail is running along roads make sure you go with the flow of traffic on the right side of the road. One wet spot between Gaines Hwy and 12 Mile Rd.

Kinross loop and south to Pickford, parts of Trail #49, #494, #472

Base 3 – 6 inches – Trail is in Good Condition.

Kinross to Raco/Rudyard, Trail # #480 & #472

Base 3-6 inches – Trail is in Fair Condition. Spile dam portion has a one wet spot.

The Downtown Trail has not been groomed, but it is marked. The city will not set up the barrels until we have enough snow, after the 1st of the Year, maybe this week if we don’t warm up too much.

Newberry Trail Report – 01/23

Snow showers expected this week and cold temps.

Trail #9 is reported in Excellent condition, about 10″ in town and more as you go North. Joe groomed yesterday afternoon and saw about 180 sleds. On the return trip Todd only saw 25 sleds and the trail has had time to set up nicely. There is a LOT of snow out toward Pine Stump.

Trail #45 is plowed from Skyline Road to the north 3 miles for logging. This area is very icy with large dips please be careful. The trail is in Excellent condition other than that. Lou said we can now measure the snow in feet instead of inches.

Trail #9/2 to Epoufette/ Trout Lake is in very good condition, as they did get about 8′ of snow. The spur to Trout Lake is being groomed today.

THE NORTH STORE ON CO. RD. 407,WILL BE OPEN THIS YEAR.

The curfew for the Village of Newberry is 11:00 P.M. until 7:00 A.M.

FYI: There will not be gas at Rainbow Lodge as they are closed due to the Duck Lake fire. There is a gas pump logo on the trail map, but they will be CLOSED.
