Good morning all!
We received around 2” of new snow last night, depending on the area. Not enough to groom yet, but a nice layer to freshen up what we already had. I show 7” on the ground here in the Soo as of right now. It will be in the 40s the next three days so we will see melting from the top.
The good news is that there was frost in the ground before the snow came at the end of November, so it isn’t melting from the bottom. We’ve had people out riding since the 1st, packing what we have down and driving the frost further down. While 2” isn’t a lot, it all helps. I am hopeful we won’t see a lot of rain, but even a little might be ok. It’ll get into the snow we already have and refreeze to firm things back up when the temps drop again. We’ll keep updating!

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Gaylord Michigan >> Heavy snow and bitter cold wind chills are expected to begin tonight and continue through Monday. New snowfall of 4-8” with locally higher amounts are possible by Monday night/Tuesday morning. Wind gusts of 30-45+ mph are expected Monday morning and afternoon. Wind chills will drop well below zero through Tuesday as well. Combination of heavy snow, winds, and cold will create widespread hazardous travel conditions across northern Michigan with whiteouts possible at times, especially across open areas. Jay and I hit the city trails last night and they are in good shape. Some choppy spots due to heavier traffic earlier, but we smoothed them out as best we could and saw very little traffic on our run.
Snow was falling the whole run and should be a beautiful ride in the morning.
