Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 12/18

Looks like a great weekend for riding. Overall trails Fair to Good…some better than good…(and a couple spots likely worse than fair.)
Groomers from the Gogebic Range Trail Authority, Gogebic Area Grooming, U.P. Thunder Riders of Watersmeet, and North Country Snowmobile Club in Ontonagon are all out on the trails.
Gogebic Range Trail Authority. A ‘heads up’ – trail 11S is closed for about a week due to logging, but the good news on this trail is they are working on a permanent re-route around that wet hole that causes so much trouble. Again the closure shouldn’t last too long and we’ll keep you informed. In addition, 11N has NOT been groomed yet, as there are still too wet to groom.
Gogebic Area Groomers-everything is freshly groomed-they report trails flat and hard right now…a few rough areas where there was logging are well marked.
Watersmeet are groomer reporting all trails freshly groomed.
In Ontonagon, one of two groomers is out…the other expects to be in action next week…watch for ice East on Trail 12, Norwich Rd. and LP Walsh.
Remember, the groomers can be out any time of the day or night so PLEASE pull over when you see them.
Keep in mind, although MI trails opened December 1st, they may or may not be groomed. WI Trails are now officially open.
Check out web cams throughout the area to see the snow amounts for yourself. Find links on our website at westernup.info

Gaylord Area Trail Report – Ray’s Retreat Country Inn – 12/18

Don from the DNR stopped in to see us yesterday morning. He told us that he is overseeing the grooming, and assured us that the trails would be groomed and kept in good condition.

His word is good. Wed the groomer went by twice. And they must have went another time thru the night because when I drove into work yesterday morning the trail looked good.

Thursday, the groomer was seen three times along trail 7 at different times. Riders came in and said the trails were in great shape! Again, this morning the trail looks great. Smooth ….

Riders report their ride thru Lakes of the North was good the entire way, with a few areas in the corners that may have had some bumps.

They enjoyed their rides with no complaints.

The Sno Cross is this weekend in Gaylord.

We will look forward to getting out and riding on the trails sometime this week. If you’re looking for a place to stay that is right on the trail, ample trailer parking, and a hot breakfast to start your day, give us a call at Rays Retreat. 989-732-2703 or 989-732-4914.

We are also renting Ski Doo snowmobiles.
