Although there is still a lot of snow, snowmobile trails from Twin Lakes to Copper Harbor are officially closed and grooming has ended for the season.
Houghton County has received 186.25 inches of snow for the season and has 33 inches on the ground. Keweenaw County has received 296.5 inches of snow for the season and has 50 inches on the ground.
Keweenaw Trails Services thanks everyone who helped with our winter recreation program and we look forward to opening the trails again on December 1st.

The official last day of the season is upon us. Temps and forecast are just now starting to look like spring may happen… someday.
Trails are still in very good condition. There was a huge ton of traffic on Saturday with more trailers in Iggy then we have seen in a very long time. Trails for the most part held up OK. Things are getting loose and sloppy in a few areas for sure, but there is still 12′-24′ of base out there with over 24′ in the woods.
The forecast for this week is finally going to knock some of our snow down. The warmer March sun has taken its toll on all of the paved roads. I am going to guess that by the end of the week the plowed roads, such as East Lake Rd will be showing gravel. The trails themselves should hold for the coming weekend though. We are supposed to get some rain tonight, and maybe on Friday.
If you are looking to squeeze in one or two more rides, then the opportunity will be there. It has been a really good season around here for riding, but it is still holding on. You are still legal to ride all of the Straits trails after today- no worries. Check back later in the week, and I will post up current conditions and a mini season wrap-up.
